Communications specialist hired
for source water protection
EXETER — The Ausable
Bayfield Conservation
Authority (ABCA), in part-
nership with the Maitland
Valley Conservation
Authority (MVCA), has hired
Huron County journalist and
teacher Tim Cumming as
Communications Specialist
for the new Source Water
Protection Project.
The new communications
specialist will share his time
between the Source Water
Protection Project and the
ABCA
"There are exciting waterTim Cum
initiatives happening across your two
watersheds and we have to do more to
nurture those efforts and begin new
ones to clean up source water,"
Cumming said.
"Municipalities, home and cottage
owners, farmers, businesses and indi-
viduals all have vital and positive roles
to play in conserving water and keeping
chemicals and bacteria out of your
water."
Everyone has a role in cleaning up
source water or keeping source water
clean, he said. Cumming said the ABCA
and MVCA hope to use many forms of
communication to let area residents
know about the importance of keeping
source water clean, publicizing new
efforts to clean up or protect
source water and letting peo-
ple know what they can do to
be part of the Source Water
Protection Project.
Cumming, who has degrees
in journalism and education,
has been a longtime advocate
for source -water protection
and was interviewed for a
TVO documentary news item
on issues of water quality in
the Lake Huron area.
He is a Goderich resident
with more than 10 years
experience in community
ming journalism in Huron, Perth
and Bruce counties. He is a past editor
of The Goderich Signal -Star and The
Huron Expositor in Seaforth.
"Communication with people in the
two watersheds is a pillar of our strate-
gy to protect clean source water for cur-
rent and future generations," said pro-
ject manager Cathie Brown.
"We are creating an exciting team of
skilled and positive people who are
committed to the importance of clean
water and we are excited to have some-
one with Tim's experience and skills
join that developing team."

GRAND BEND — Bikini
Bob's Restaurant and
Beach Club opened
Thanksgiving weekend
2004.
Since then it's become a
regular hang out for the
locals and that's just what
the general manager had
hoped for.
Jennifer Gaukroger says,
"People who work here
are from here and are liv-
ing here. We're local and
we provide an affordable,
fun atmosphere."
The roadhouse, on
Grand Bend's main street
has a capacity for 240
people. There are two
outdoor patios, one smok-
ing and one non-smoking.
There's also a private
room on the second floor
that can be rented for par-
ties.
Bikini Bob's is known for
its contractor's lunch — a
quick, hot and cheap meal
between $5-$6. Did I
mention the strip sirloin
dinner for only $8.95?
The restaurant is open
daily from 10 a.m. for
breakfast until 2 a.m. for
those with the late night
munchies.
Gaukroger says it's been
a popular spot for mem-
bers of the Beauty and the
Beast cast looking for a
fast meal after their show
at the Huron Country
Playhouse.

Huron County Family Health Team
Orphan Patient Registration
Are you a patient without a family physician in Huron
County?
If you or a family member does not have a family physician, the Huron County
Family Health Team is beginning to register orphan patients. At this point in
development the information requested includes: name, address, phone number,
email address (if applicable), and date of birth.
What is a Family Health Team?
A Family Health Team is an approach to primary health care that brings together
different health care providers to co-ordinate the highest possible quality of care
for you — the patient. It will be designed to complement professionals such as
doctors, pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and more. The Huron County
Family Health Team has a mandate to make primary health care available to
orphan patients.
Why register early?
This registration does not guarantee immediate service, but will create an orphan
patient database for the implementation of the Huron County Family Health
Team. Early registration is an excellent idea to help in the development and
organization of a comprehensive health care program. Geography and local
health concerns will help us tailor our services for you. Please register yourself
and family now!
