As well as protecting your skin during the sunny
days of summer, protect your eyes too. Good
sunglasses should block 99-100% of both UVA and
UVB rays. However, even with good sunglasses,
about 50% of the harmful rays come in from above
the glasses. So wearing a broad -brimmed hat will
prevent this.
Did you know that cold sores are contagious? So don't kiss people if you
have one. A virus causes cold sores and there are good antiviral
medicines available on prescription from your doctor. Applying an ice
cube to the cold sore will help relieve the discomfort. If you use an over-
the-counter medicine to treat the cold sore, discard it after your cold sore
has healed, so you won't contaminate a future site.
Herbal remedies often act just like drugs. We encourage all our
customers to carry a list with them at all times of all medications they take
regularly. That includes prescribed drugs, over-the-counter drugs and
herbal remedies.
When you are in hospital and have some medication changes while
there, be sure to ask questions about the medications you had before you
went into hospital. Often, changes are made and a drug with a different
name may be prescribed which could be similar to one you took at home.
To avoid doubling up on the same kind of drug, ask questions of your
doctor and pharmacist.
Our job as your pharmacist is to look after your medcation needs. Let us
be part of your health care team.
