Juniors ready for season
EXETER — The WK/Co-
op Juniors started the
pre -season with two wins
last week as the team
gears up for another sea-
son.
The Juniors played a
home -and -home series
against Strathroy and
came out on top in both
games.
Exeter defence was the
story in the two games as
the Juniors committed just
three errors in the two
games.
"To only commit three
errors in the first two
games of the season is
fantastic," mentioned gen-
eral manager Jeff Keller.
"Due to the poor weath-
er this spring, we have
only had three practices. I
was not really expecting a
whole lot."
Pitching was also strong
in the two games.
Exeter's depth on the
mound increased this sea-
son with two new players ,
Scott Morgan and Mitch
Iredale moving up to the
Junior ranks
Morgan pitched a couple
of games for the Juniors
last year and played well.
Iredale played AAA bad-
ger ball in London last
season and GM Keller is
happy to see him back at
home.
"Two new pitchers ,
adding to the already
strong arms we have, will
certainly help us tremen-
dously."
Ricky Regier, Tim
Meidinger, Jon Brand,
Mark Laye and Terry
Hogg are the other return-
ing pitchers.
The strong pitching has
already shown itself last
week with Strathroy get-
ting just five hits over the
two games.
Exeter pitchers walked
just six batters as well.
Although it is early in the
season, Keller would like
to see some improvement
on the offensive side of the
game.
"It is pretty early, and I
am not worried yet.
However, there is a lot of
work to do at the plate."
Although Exeter scored
10 runs in the two games
last week, they belted out
just eight hits.
Exeter took advantage of
a few defensive mistakes
by Strathroy to pull out the
wins.
"We have had just three
practices and the hitting is
always the slowest thing to
come around."
The Juniors will play
night games this year due
to the erection of new
lights on Alvin Willert
Field at the end of May.
Home games are 8 p.m.
Thursday nights. The sea-
son starts May 19 at
home.
