The Times Advocate, 2005-04-27, Page 1716 Exeter Times -Advocate Wednesday, April 27, 2005 South Huron students present "Cabaret" South Huron District High School students displayed their musical talents on the weekend with their presen- tation of "Cabaret" The weekend's power blackout caused the cancellation of Saturday night's performance, but Sunday afternoon's show went ahead as scheduled. Varna UCW and Stan Lee Club to meet By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA — The Zone 8 spring rally was held April 21 at the Stanley Township Complex, hosted by the Varna Stan Lee Club. Zone president Keith Tyndall welcomed everyone. Two minutes of silence was observed in memory of the departed members. Stan Lee president Charles Reid welcomed everyone and also local dignitaries. Jonathon Schmidt from Guelph spoke on the topic concerning gambling. Elly Van Bergen gave the bless- ing and lunch was served to 111 people by the Varna United Church Women (UCW). Following lunch Reid introduced the guest speaker, local MP Paul Steckle. Everyone enjoyed Steckle's mes- sage. Anna Keys thanked him on behalf of the group. Olave Little, Zone 8 secretary from Seaforth, gave the sec- retary's report. Lottie Grenier of Zurich gave the treasurer's report. Each club secretary gave a three-minute report of their activities during the year. The club were pleased that James Love of the Grand Bend group volunteered to stand as third vice- president for Zone 8. A Share the Wealth was held with proceeds going to Zone 8. The Stan Lee Club provided an outdoor flower bas- ket for a door prize and it was won by Viola Taylor of Seaforth. The Stan Lee Club had a table of draw prizes. Thanks to the many people who donated articles for this table, especially those from outside the Stan Lee Group. Reid introduced the entertainers, a musical group consisting of Jim Love, Glen Deichert, Ralph Stephenson and George Lee. The music was enjoyed by all. Olga Davis of Exeter Club gave the courtesy remarks. The Seniors Prayer was read and the meeting closed with "God Save the Queen." Stan Lee Club meeting The Zone 8 fall rally will be hosted by the Belgrave Club on Oct. 20. The Stan Lee Club will meet Wed., May 4 at 8 p.m. at the com- plex. Church service was in Goshen on Sunday with the Service on Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Guest speaker was Lorne Underwood from Clifford. Committee members Gordon Hill, Joe Laurie and Art and Jean Bennett also took part in the service. Underwood showed slides after the service. Next Sunday, church will be in Varna with Bruce Whitmore lead- ing the worship. Varna UCW meet Thurs., May 5 at the Varna Church at 8 p.m. Sun., May 8 is Mother's Day and Christian Family Sunday and Joyce Dowson will be leading the worship. Five Alive presents The Faith Story on the story of the birth of Judaism, Christianity and Islam with Dr. Barry Moore and Alan Davidson. This dynamic, thought-provoking and uplifting presentation in word and song fea- turing trumpet, organ and favourite sacred music will be presented Conference Sunday, May 29 at the Brucefield Church at 10:45 a.m. Donations will go to Camp Menesetung. There will Truck impounded after alleged violation HENSALL — An officer stopped a 1978 GMC pickup truck on King Street , the morning of April 23, after noticing the occupants were not wearing seat- belts. OPP say the driver could not produce a license because of previous criminal code driving convictions. The 31 -year-old male driver from Central Huron has been charged with a seatbelt infraction and driving while disqual- ified. His 39 -year-old male passenger, from Huron East, was also issued a seatbelt violation. The truck has been impounded for 45 days and towed to a facility in London. be a luncheon to fol- low.
