Exeter Hawks turn the page at banquet

EXETER — The Exeter
Hawks turned the page
last week, saying goodbye
to retiring general manag-
er John Rasenberg April
13 at the team banquet at
the Exeter Legion.
Rasenberg leaves behind
an organization he rebuilt
that is described as one of
the best in the league.
He described the Hawks
as a special organization
"that is the class of the
OHA and what junior
hockey is all about."
The Hawks will also
have a new look behind
the bench next season
with the departure of
head coach Derek
Macnair and assistant
coach Len Press.
Macnair thanked the
Hawks for giving him the
opportunity, as well as the
players and Press.
President Tom Seip said
with the Hawks annual
meeting May 10, it would
be nice to have possible
candidates for the general
manager and coaching
positions.
Seip said while the orga-
nization is hoping local
volunteers will step for-
ward, the team needs to
be ready for next season
and doesn't wait too long.
Receiving the Hawk
award was Darryl Bourne.
Presenting the trophy
sponsored by the Bogart
family for Dedication,
Perseverance and
Sportsmanship, was Ron
Bogart, who said the tro-
phy has been given for 27
years.
Team captain Scott
Davies was the recipient
of the Donny McKellar
Memorial Most Valuable
Player Award.

Minor Midget donation
The Big Brothers and Big Sisters Association of South Huron was the recipient of
a donation from the South Huron Minor Midgets recently.The team had $400
remaining from their tournament funds they decided to donate to charity. Back L-

Rasenberg said it had
been a great four years
and he would miss the
companionship and cama-
raderie of the team.
Presenting an award to
Rasenberg and his wife
Sue Ann, treasurer
Sheona Baker and secre-
tary Carol Windsor said
the team was losing a
valuable member and
there would be "big shoes
to fill."
Baker thanked
Rasenberg for his gen-
erosity, leadership and for
rebuilding the organiza-
tion, "we wish you well."
Rasenberg thanked the
organization, saying to the
players, "do 'em proud,
play hard. Bye."
