Last year, Exeter partic- ipants joined VON Palliative Care Volunteers in raising awareness and funds for palliative care and bereavement ser- vices. Volunteer Care Program chair Jim Tomlinson said the purpose of the Hike for Hospice is not only to raise funds, but also to raise awareness of pro- fessional, family and informal caregivers who care for others at the end of life. The funds raised through the VON Exeter hike will be used to sup- port programs in South Huron, such as volunteer visiting and bereavement services. All of the money raised stays in the com- munity. The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association reports that 95 per cent of Canadians say they want quality hos- pice palliative care at the end of their life, yet fewer than 15 per cent of Canadians have access to this type of care. With your help, resi- dents of Exeter, Grand Bend and area can access hospice palliative care services when they need them. Hike for Hospice will be held at more than 100 sites across Canada.
