Bayfield Conservation Authority
has named Bluewater Recycling
Association as the winner of
this year's conservation award.
In accepting the award, Paul
Maguire said, "It won't be long
before blue box collections will
be done without any cost to the
municipality. We are not quit-
ting in our attempts to recycle
as much as possible." Authority employees Cathy
Pfaff and John Schwindt received 15 -year staff
service awards.
20 YEARS AGO
April 21, 1985 - The Clandeboye United Church
will close its doors on June 23 with a special ser-
vice to commemorate 120 years of service to the
community.
25 YEARS AGO
April 16, 1980 - The Exeter Kinsmen midgets
have won the OMHA midget "B" championship
after edging Bradford 5-3 in the final game. Jack
Fuller and Jack Underwood are the coaches and
Keith Coates is manager with captains Pete
Tuckey, Dave Shaw and Mike Murray. The final
victory was sealed by great goaltending by Rich
Fletcher and goals by Jeff Rowe, Pete Tuckey,
Dave Jackson, Mike Clark and Rick Lindenfield.
The Zurich Buckeyes have won the South
Huron hockey league title defeating the Exeter
Mohawks in six games. Leading the Zurich scor-
ing attack in the final with two goals each were
Gerald Weido and Mike Clarke.
35 YEARS AGO
April 19, 1995 - The newest member of the
Exeter detachment of the Ontario Provincial
Police is Bob Whiteford, a native of Toronto. This
brings the detachment strength to seven officers.
Huron MP Bob McKinley says he will keep a
close watch on federal spending of the new
Regional Development Incentives Act after he
found out more than 60 per cent of grants
approved to the end of February went to the
province of Quebec.
45 YEARS AGO
April 21, 1960 - Principal Mrs. Greta J.
Lavender of Hensall has resigned as principal of
Zurich Public School.
Miss Sheila Fahner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Fahner of Stephen township was winner
of the top award for a clarinet solo in the 15 -year
class at the Stratford Music Festival.
60 YEARS AGO
April 19, 1945 - Specials this week at Southcott
Bros. are Old Dutch cleanser at nine cents a tin,
Hawes floor wax at 45 cents and a bag of Irish
Cobbler potatoes for $2.25.
Wages for the weed inspector in Hay township
for 1945 have been set at 50 cents per hour.
One of the largest crowds attending an auction
sale gathered at the residence of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Zwicker in Crediton Saturday after-
noon last. About 2,000 people showed up and
auctioneer William H. Smith who has been con-
ducting sales in the district for a number of years
said bidding and prices were exceptionally high.
Last Sunday two veteran ministers Rev. J.W.
Down, 85 and Rev. J.P. Rice, 91 attended the ser-
vice in James Street United Church. Rev. Rice has
served 72 years in the ministry and Rev. Down
64 years.
80 YEARS AGO
April 19, 1925 - A play, "Welcome Home
Jimmie" was presented in the Opera House by
young people from James Street United Church.
The cast included Silas Reed, Wilf Shapton, Alma
Harding, Wilma Powe, Amy Shapton, Thelma
Taylor, Leonard Pfaff, Hedley May and Rita Rowe.
85 YEARS AGO
April 17, 1920 - At a meeting of the Exeter
cemetery board, secretary F.W. Gladman recom-
mended that caretaker John Ford be paid a
bonus of $50 for last year and his 1920 salary be
$750.
Casper Walper has sold his implement agency
business in Zurich to Joseph Druar of St.
Clements. Mr. Walper has purchased the
Dominion Hotel in Zurich.
Mr. T.C. McLeod has resigned his position as
barber with F.M. Boyle and left Monday for
Kitchener where he has accepted a position with
the Dominion Tire Company.

Centralia/Huron Park Lions Bingo will be held

2005 Senior Games
Registration forms for the Exeter and Area 2005
Senior Games are available at the Olde Town Hall
(Municipal) office. Completed forms must be
returned to the office no less than two weeks prior to
the event.
The Senior Games is designed for all people aged
55 and older. This is not an Actifest
year, however, district winners will
participate in the events to be held
in Windsor where the regional games
are being hosted.

ties planned for seniors in your com-
munity as well as the senior games,

Lest we forget
Harry Ernest Windsor was born in Centralia
Ontario on April 9, 1896. The last few years before
his enlistment, he had resided with his family on
Huron Street West in Exeter. He was attending
Exeter High School getting his education when he
decided to enlist in the Canadian Army. Soon after
his 18th birthday, he enlisted with the Mounted
Rifles in Hamilton.
His Regiment was the Canadian Infantry (Alberta
Regt.) when he was attached to the 10th Battalion
