10 Exeter Times–Advocate Wednesday, April 13, 2005 This week marks the 25th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope,Terry Fox's attempt to run across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer. Fox started his run April 12, 1980 in St. John's Nfld., but was unable to complete his cross -Canada trip when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Fox had to stop his run outsideThunder Bay on Sept. I , after running 5,373 kilometres (42 kilometres a day). He died June 28,198 I . Since then,the annual Terry Fox Run has raised more than $360 million for cancer research. The organizers of Exeter's run Sept. 18 are looking to make this year the biggest year yet and are looking for great fundraising ideas. Doug Ellison, above left, started Exeter's firstTerry Fox Run in 1982, and has been a supporter ever since.To mark the 25th anniversary of Fox's run, Exeter'sArn Spivey, right, will run 25 miles during the Exeter Terry Fox Run.Ann DeVries, centre, is organizing this year's run and is looking for inter- esting ways for participants to raise money. One idea is to join a team of five people and have each person run or walk five miles.Another way to mark the anniversary is to have 25 sponsors on your pledge sheet. Agnes Bray was the organist with Glenn and Lois Hayter looking after the usher- ing duties. The service began with an organ pre- lude followed by Pastor Fred Darke welcoming everyone and the Passing of the Peace. Lois Hayter was the reader and lit the Christ Candle. Readings from Acts 2, Luke 24, and Psalm 116 were heard. Pastor Fred's message was "The Road To Emmaus". There was a special time for the children with story and prayer. The service closed with the singing o f "Abide Me" and HENSALL NEWS With Commissioning Benediction. A lectionary -based Bible Study is being held Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. in Pastor Darke's office, everyone wel- come. At Carmel Presbyterian Church Tracy Whitson- Bahro was the minister with Joyce Pepper play- ing the organ. The ser- vice closed with benedic- tion and choral amen. The Carmel Presbyterian Church will present a roast beef sup- per on May 1 at the Hensall Community Centre from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Adults $11, Children age 5 to 12 $5, children under 5 free. Volunteers contribute numerous hours of quality time to the residents of Queensway through friendly visits, bin- gos, church services, games, choir, musical entertainment, walks, baking group, manicures, parties, pet therapy and much more. Hensall Presbyterian women provided assistance and prizes at bingo Monday afternoon and will do so each Monday in April. The Rev. Bylaw No. 20 - 2005 passed on March 31, 2005 sets out a range of charges to be collected from new residential development only. These charges vary by location within the municipality, as set out below. The monies collected are used to pay for services provided by the Township. These charges apply to all lands within the Corporation, so a key map is not provided. A copy of Bylaw No. 20 - 2005 may be examined at the Township offices, 33351 Richmond Street, Lucan, during regular office hours. Under Section 14 of the Act, any person or organization may appeal the bylaw to the Ontario Municipal Board by filing with the Clerk of the Municipality a notice of appeal setting out the objection to the bylaw and the reasons supporting the objection.
