Elimville WI donates existing funds to charities
By Grace Pym
ELIMVILLE —
Members of Elimville
Women's Institute (WI)
met March 16. Hostess
Virla Allen welcomed
everyone to her appro-
priately decorated home
for those who are Irish
and those who wish they
were. The themes for the
program were St.
Patrick's and Love.
St. Patrick's Day
An Irish Blessing was
read by Allen, program
convener. Many interest-
ing facts about Ireland's
international holiday
were mention. The first
St. Patrick's Day parade
was held in the U.S.
March 17, 1762. The
patron saint of Ireland
was born about 387 in
what is now Great
Britain. In the year 432
he went to Ireland to
teach Christianity which
the Irish accepted enthu-
siastically. IIe also intro-
duced the Roman alpha-
bet to Ireland.
Traditional sayings and
words familiar to the
Irish are the leprechaun,
the Blarney stone, the
dance knows as 'The
Jig's Up.'
Love thoughts were
shared in the poem, "A
Child's Definition of
Love."
President
Shirley
Cooper opened
the business
meeting by reading
a St. Patrick's Legend.
The Institute Ode was
sung and the Mary
Stewart Collect recited.
Seven members
answered the roll call by
naming a song title
including the word love.
Meetings
Meeting to remember
are as follows: April 5
Huron South District
board meeting; April 7

tion fair at Grand Bend
legion hall; May 19

Crediton.
Disbanding of
Elimville WI
At the May 2004 meet-
ing, discussion com-
menced regarding the
disbanding of the
Elimville WI branch.
Declining membership
and few active mem-
bers has been a
concern for
several years.
Following
much thought and
consideration, it was
unanimously agreed in
November 2004 to dis-
band at the official year-
end April 2005 and that
no action be taken as a
group to join another
branch.
All existing funds have
been donated to support
Coins For Friendship and
the Erland Lee Home,
both WI projects; also to
the Exeter Fall Fair,
Anago, and the South
Huron Medical Centre.
A tasty lunch—includ-
ing several green -
coloured foods and tea—
was enjoyed by all. The
final meeting, which will
include dinner out, will
be held April 27 at the
Malibu Restaurant.
Please note: Further
information about
Elimville WI will be
provided after the final
meeting.
