EXETER — OPP are
probing a series of vehi-
cle break-ins during the
night of March 16 in
Exeter.
One of the first report-
ed to police was a 1995
Ford Lincoln on
Alexander Street.
Someone removed cash
from the centre console
of the unlocked car.
Two vehicles in an
Orchard Street laneway
were also targeted. One
of the vehicles, a white
2002 Ford Wind Star,
had the window
smashed. A black
Toshiba Portage, Model
3500, was stolen. It's
valued at $1,500.
A Jeep at a residence
on Riverside Drive was
also broken into. Cash,
an emergency flash-
light, sunglasses, ciga-
rettes, a lighter, binocu-
lars and umbrella were
removed.
Police responded to
three residences on
Kalisch Avenue. A 1994
Chrysler LeBaron was
ransacked and cash was
stolen.
At another home, a
1996 Ford Explorer left
in the driveway had
been entered and a
thermos bottle removed.
At a third residence,
police learned a vehicle
had been searched and
a small amount of cash
taken.
Two homeowners on
Redford Drive also filed
reports with police.
Someone entered a
1994 Oldsmobile and
took money as well as
the vehicle's ashtray.
Cash was also lifted
from a red 1997 Toyota
Police say a small
amount of money was
taken from a vehicle on
Wellington Street.
OPP say nine of the 10
thefts occurred when
owners left their vehi-
cles unlocked.
OPP followed snow -
tracks for four hours,
throughout Exeter, try-
ing to locate the cul-
prit(s). Eventually the
tracks were lost.
Meanwhile in Clinton,
police report a similar
trail of activity with 11
unlocked vehicles
entered and cash and
property stolen.
Police are urging dri-
vers to lock their vehi-
cles at all times. Do not
tempt would-be thieves
by leaving valuable
items in clear view.
Place them under a
seat, in your trunk or
take them inside your
home.
