compete in the Provincial Starskate Championship.
Sarah and Will Kwajafa took first in Preliminary
Dance, Mackenzie Hohmann placed second and seventh
in Preliminary Ladies, and Abbey Oke was seventh in
Junior Bronze Ladies.
Kelsey Holtzmann placed eighth in Senior Bronze
Ladies, Sarah Walker Hill was third and eighth in Junior
Silver Ladies and Justine Sheppard placed seventh in
Senior Silver Ladies.
Skaters from the EFSC were up against skaters from
Western Ontario's nine regions; Bluewater, Grand River,
Hall went, HOME, Interclub north, Kent, Niagara, Sun
Parlour and Tri County.
Mackenzie and Walker Hill qualified after their first
skate to skate in the final round. Each category had
between 40-70 skaters to compete against.
The top three skaters in the final event qualified for
the Western Ontario team to compete at All -Ontario
championships March 19-20 at R.I.M Park in Waterloo.
Coach Kathy McLlwain said she is proud of all her
skaters results and hard work in a big competition with
a lot of good skaters.
McElwain said the skaters who competed decided to
go the provincial route and have been extra committed
and dedicated to setting their goals and achieving them.
They train three to four times a week and are coached
by McElwain, Jeff Loosley and Jen Overholt.
The Exeter Figure Skating Club still has two more
competions for the skaters and a final test
There will also be a spring skating school in April at
the Hensall Arena.
Sarah and Will are also on the Development team for
Western Ontario and are attending a seminar workshop
at the Junior World Championship in Kitchener this
week.
