obvious their heads were not into
the game as they lost to Central

LUCAN — The Lucan
Ilderton Jets remained
in the middle of the
senior playoff race, with
a win and tie on the
weekend to give them a
14-5-2-3 record for 33
points.
Lucan is in a four-way
tie for fourth place with
Palmerston, Clinton and
Shelburne.
Elora leads the league
with 37 points with
Hensall in second at 36
and Durham at 34.
The Jets dominated
Friday night in Monkton,
outshooting the home
side by a 51-28 margin
and coming away with a
7-4 win.
Leading the attack for
the Jets were Steve
Mathews with two goals,
Mike Vandeven, Greg
Henderson, Bob Grant,
Bill Byers and Scott
Phillips.
Jets General Manager
Rob Andrews said the
Jets were sluggish
through most of the
game.
But after a closed door
meeting in the second
intermission, they came
out and scored three in
the third for the win.
Saturday night playing
Milverton, Andrews said
the Jets got off to a good
start and were leading
1-0 after the first period,
but trailed 3-2 by the
end of the second peri-
od.
The Jets rebounded in
the third for a 4-4 tie,
sending it to overtime
which didn't produce a
winner.
Although Monkton out -
shot the Jets 50-47, Jets
goalie Dave Riddell
played a strong game in
net.
Scoring for Lucan
Ilderton were Byers,
Matt Monro, Craig Black
and Shaun Fairweather
who tied it for the Jets
with three minutes left.
The Jets have one
game remaining in the
regular season, with
Monkton in Lucan Jan.
29 for an 8:30 p.m.
start.
Andrews said the Jets
are hoping to get the two
points to keep them in
the top eight.
"It's been unbelievable,
how close the standings
are...we're more than
pleased with what has
happened so far. We just
found out we've won
more games in our first
year than the last four
expansion teams won
put together in their first
years...we're probably
one of the most success-
ful new franchises to
join the league."
SH Midget playdowns
EXETER — The South Huron Midgets will begin
their OMHA title defence tonight (Wednesday) when
they begin the first round with a game against Mt.
Brydges at 9 p.m. in Exeter.
Coach Darren Kints said while the Midgets had a
more veteran team last year "we're starting to notice
that some of our younger guys are stepping up and
turning into the veterans we need."
He added while the team wasn't as physical as the
one last year, they seem to be able to put the puck in
the net more frequently.
Kints said the toughest grouping South Huron might
face in the playdowns could be in the first round
against Forest and Mt. Brydges.
"They both played us pretty tough," said Kints.
