St. Paul's Anglican holds festive potluck dinner

GRANTON — Granton
area members attended
the Kirkton Horticultural
Society's potluck supper
at the Kirkton Woodham
Community centre on
Tuesday
evening, Dec.
7.
The Christmas Fantasy
program and meeting fol-
lowed when the speaker
was Rowena Martin
demonstrating easy
Christmas designs. There
was also a mini Christmas
show, annual meeting
and election of officers.
Larry Lewis and mother
Muriel Lewis enjoyed an
Advent noon organ recital
presented by Paul Merritt
at First St. Andrew's
United Church in London
Dec. 10. A luncheon fol-
lowed in the lower church
hall.

Granton -Wesley UCW
Unit 3 met on Tuesday
evening, Dec. 7 at the
home of Donna Westman
for a Christmas potluck
dinner, organized by Ruth
Cook and the hostess.
Sixteen members were
present and lay Pastor
Val Hodgins asked the
grace. Everyone partici-
pated in the program
with readings, poems,
stories, and even some
Christmas music and a
reading from a 1958
Family Herald. Laughter
and tears were shared
during the Christmas
message of love, hope and
peace.
Irene Richardson led
the business and both
Richardson and Cook
thanked everyone for
their sup-
port dur-
ing the past year.
Richardson closed the
meeting with a reading
and prayer.
Granton -Wesley UCW
Unit 4 met on Thursday
evening, Dec. 9 for supper
at the home of president
Marilyn Humphrey. The
meeting followed, opened
with the Scripture from
Luke 1 by Humphrey and
a reading `Leading Lady'
and prayer.
Upcoming events were
discussed including the
beef on a bun community
supper Dec. 13 and the
community carol service
at Holy Trinity Anglican
Church in Lucan on Dec.
20 when Granton -Wesley
UCW will host the
refreshments to follow.
During the program,
Bettie Dann and
Humphrey gave readings
of Christmas traditions
and Humphrey closed
with a poem 'The
Warmth of Christmas'.
At the Granton -Wesley
United Church Dec. 12,
lay Pastor Val Hodgins
entitled the message
`Zechariah and Joseph'.

Dashwood Seniors
accept January invitation

DASHWOOD — On Nov.
29 the Seniors gathered at
Allen's Restaurant in
Dashwood for the
Christmas meeting.
A delicious dinner was
enjoyed. The entertain-
ment for the evening was
provided by three vocal-
ists: Brandi Shaw, Julie
Bibby and Ally Macgregor
sang several songs a cap-
pella. Earl Rader, Vesta
Miller and Evelyn
Pickering gave readings.
After 0 Canada and the
Lord's Prayer, roll call
was answered by 28
members and one visitor.
The minutes of the last
meeting were read. Gerty
Stadi moved the adoption
of the minutes and Milly
Webber seconded the
motion.
Ray Rader gave the
treasurer's report. Mary
Kenney moved that the
report be accepted as
read. Shirley Martene sec-
onded the motion.
Martene gave a card
report. Harold Stire
reported that the hall
needs a new roof and that
the board wants to reno-
vate the kitchen.
The club decided to
accept an invitation to
entertain at Blue Water
Nursing Home in January.
A euchreamme is
planned for Apr. 21. The
spring rally will be held in
Varna, Thurs., April 21.
The meeting closed with
Next meeting is to be
held Jan. 17 at 12 p.m.
with a potluck dinner.
Group 2 will be in charge.
Cards were enjoyed after
the meeting.
The scripture readings
were from Isaiah 9 and
Matthew 1. Adam Dodds
lit the Advent candles for
hope, peace and joy. Mary
Waters gave the Minute
for Mission.
The children's time was
about gifts of sharing, joy
and gifts were put under
the tree for the Salvation
Army.
Unit 2 had pleasure
plates - trays of goodies
which could be pur-
chased.
At St. Paul's Anglican
Church in Kirkton Dec. 12
(Advent 3), Rev. Dalice
Sim and Christine
Downey led the service of
morning prayer. Bill
Schaefer read the lessons
and Brandon Blackler lit
the Advent candles of
hope, peace and joy.
In her message Rev. Sim
talked about the coming
of God's kingdom and

Institute members, hus-
bands and friends had a
festive outing for supper
at the Malibu Restaurant
near Centralia on Dec. 8.
A short program followed
when president Betty
McIntyre gave some
humorous quotes and
Carolyn Hardy conducted
a Christmas quiz.
Allan Hill was also hon-
oured for his 80th birth-
day. The program was
completed with a few
games of euchre when
prizes were awarded to
Mary Scott, Lena Hardy,
Marion Hodgson, Muriel
Lewis, Roy Cunningham
and Ruth Hill.
After heading for home,
our chauffeur Betty
McIntyre took up a tour of
the lights in St. Marys,
which are really fantastic.
