USDA rule
BLYTH — The
United States
Department of
Agriculture has draft-
ed a new rule which
will allow the
resumption of live
cattle and ruminants
trade between
Canada and the U.S.
The Citizen reported
the draft is now in the
hands of the United
States Office of
Management and
Budget for final
approval.
On Nov. 20,
Canadian Cattlemen's
Association president
Stan Eby said the rule
also involves an
expanded list of beef
products into the U.S.
from regions at mini-
mal risk of BSE, mak-
ing this a "significant
step" towards recov-

RIDE programs
issue offences
SOUTH HURON — Huron OPP offi-
cers have been conducting RIDE
programs in the area.
On Nov. 27 at 4:30 p.m. a citizen
contacted OPP after a vehicle drove
across their lawn on Ausable Line in
South Huron. The homeowner was
able to obtain the plate number of
the vehicle after chasing after the
offender.
The same vehicle was later
stopped by officers conducting a
RIDE program in Huron. An officer
approached the driver at 9:15 p.m.
and detected several signs of impair-
ment. He was taken for breath tests,
which indicated he had consumed
more than twice the legal limit of
alcohol.
The 23 -year-old South Huron man
has been charged with impaired dri-
ving, driving a motor vehicle with
more than 80 mgs, driving a motor
vehicle with no licence and no cur-
rently validated permit. He will
attend court in Exeter Jan. 27, 2005.
On Nov. 28 at 2 a.m. another RIDE
program was set up in the Main
Street of Exeter. A vehicle was
stopped and a 50 -year-old male
from Bluewater was issued a 12
hour licence suspension after blow-
ing a warn. An 18 -year-old male
passenger from South Huron was
issued a liquor violation.
In other RIDE programs in the
county last weekend liquor offences
were issued for open alcohol found
in vehicles.

homelessness. Her campaign ends Dec. 5.

Hunger.' She tried a similar cam-
paign a couple of years ago at a
different school, but was discour-
aged by her classmates. At South
Huron, McGoey said people have
been supporting her and teachers
have shown respect towards her
idea. She said she's even gained a
lot of new friends since she start-
ed her campaign.
For McGoey, who admits she's
used to talking a lot, remaining
silent has been difficult and she's
looking forward to Dec. 5 when
she can start talking again. She
adds her grades will probably
improve once her silence ends.
McGoey, who stayed at the
London homeless shelter a couple
of years ago, said she simply
wants to help out. Her donation
will be a surprise to the shelter,
as she hasn't told them of it yet.
"We're so used to having every-
thing ... but what if you don't
have it?"
If you'd like to help donate
money, food or clothing for
McGoey's campaign, call the high
school at 235-0880.
