The Times Advocate, 2004-10-13, Page 3030 Exeter Times -Advocate Wednesday, October 13, 2004 Classifieds New computer system for county MIDDLESEX - Library patrons throughout Middlesex County will soon see something new at their local branches and at home when they log on to www.middle- sex.library.on.ca and click on the library cata- logue link. Starting Oct. 22, staff and patrons will be using a new computer system. The upgraded and enhanced catalogue will offer patrons many new features. They can place holds on their favourite authors and titles at the library or from their home computer. They will see book jackets, find summaries and book reviews and even read the first chapter of some books. They can find out what books are available from best-seller lists and how long they may have to wait for a popular title. By checking their account, they can find out what books they have out, if they have fines owing, renew their books or change the address on their library card. The new system, known as Unicorn, is a library software package developed by the SIRSI Corporation, a leading library software vendor. Library staff have been busy testing the new sys- tem, training and plan- ning for the transition. In order to manage a smooth switch -over to the new system, all branches will be closed from 6 p.m. Oct. 19 and all day Oct. 20-21. Normal hours will resume Oct. 22. Library staff invite the community to check out the new system either by visiting their local branch or from home at www. middlesex. library. o n. ca.
