Swim-a-thon at Kirkton-Woodham pool
Twenty-five people participated in a swim-a-thon at the Kirkton-Woodham pool Sunday afternoon in an
attempt to break a Guinness World Record and raise money for drowning prevention. Organized by the
Lifesaving Society and the City of London, the event was held at pools in the area to break the record for the
greatest number of people to swim 100 metres at different venues, which stands at 2,533. Participants had to
swim 100 metres and were encouraged to find sponsors or donate to the Lifesaving Society's Water Smart
drowning prevention campaign. The participants at the Kirkton-Woodham pool raised $200. (photo/Mary

Fury earn 3-3 tie
EXETER — The Exeter
Fury battled back to a 3-3
tie Sunday in London
against Marconi.
The Fury had to erase
three one -goal deficits to
earn the single point.
Exeter fell behind when
a corner kick was
deflected over
keeper Nathan
Holmes and onto
the foot of a
Marconi player
who had the
empty net to finish
the play.
Exeter equalized
just before the half
when Marty
DeBruyn fired a
low shot around
the wall and under
the diving keeper.
In the second half,
Exeter again trailed by a
goal when a cross from
the corner found an open
man in front to make the
score 2-1 for Marconi.
Exeter started to create
more chances after that
by passing the ball
around and taking control
of the midfield.
Andrew Prout sent a
ball up to DeBruyn who
charged to the net beat-
ing the goalie on the short
side.
The score didn't stay
tied for long however as
Marconi was awarded a
penalty shot when a play-
er was tripped just inside
the box.
Once again the Fury
pressed for the tying goal.
Mike Nedza blew past
his defender on a couple
of occasions, cut-
ting in on the
goalie only to be
stopped from in
close.
The Fury was
awarded a free
kick a few min-
utes later when
Joe Forrester
was hit from
behind.
Prout crossed
the ball into the
ball and onto the
head of Pete Fragiskatos
who managed to direct
the ball up and over the
keeper and into the back
of the net to make the
final 3-3.
The Fury currently sits
in fourth place with a
record of 4-4-3.
Exeter is in action

feated on day one by
