cooking with memories
BY DEBBY WAGLER
CAMPFIRE TREATS HAVE A WAY OF BUILDING GREAT
MEMORIES! THEY HELP US ASSOCIATE FUN FOOD WITH
GOOD TIMES. SINCE RANDY AND I HAVE CAMPED FOR
YEARS WITH OUR FAMILY WE HAVE ACCUMULATED A WIDE
VARIETY OF FUN FOODS TO MAKE ON OR OVER THE FIRE.
EACH YEAR WE TRY TO BUY ONE FUN NEW BBQ OR FIRE
COOKER. WE USE BASKETS THAT YOU CAN FLIP FOR
HAMBURGERS, GRILLED CHEESE AND HOT DOGS. WE USE
PIE IRONS FOR "PIES" FILLED WITH PIE FILLING OR PEANUT
BUTTER AND CHOCOLATE OR PIZZA FILLINGS. WE
ALWAYS USE THE TRADITIONAL MARSHMALLOW STICK FOR
SMORES. HERE ARE A FEW FUN ADAPTATIONS WE HAVE
TRIED AND LIKE AT THE CAMPFIRE!
SMORES
*toasted marshmallow
*place on a milk chocolate square and sandwich
between two graham wafers or
2 arrowroot cookies or forget the chocolate and put
between two chocolate coated cookies
BANANA BOATS
*cut through a banana leaving the bottom piece of peel
intact
*fill the inside of the banana with chocolate chips (or
chocolate bar) and mini marshmallows
*wrap the banana with tinfoil and place over the fire
or in the side of coals
You will need a plate and silverware to eat this with as
it gets mushy but oh is it good!
Try putting some peanut butter in with the chocolate
and be sure to let the chocolate melt before removing
from the fire.
TRAIL MIX
Combine a variety of cereals, nuts, M and M's to make
your own trail mix. A sample of our family's mix is as
follows:
corn bran
honey nut cheerios
pretzels
M and M's
cashews
peanuts
Store in an airtight container and in a cool place if
possible.
I have made a modified one with Go Lean Crunch
cereal and carb chips, almonds and raisins for myself
and feel a little bit healthier for eating it!
HAVE SOME FUN CAMPFIRE TREATS AND SOME PRECIOUS
TIMES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

Gossiping Goose owners happy with business
By Scott Nixon
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The
Gossiping Goose Cafe just
may have the best busi-
ness name in town.
Sisters Kathy Delbridge
and Julie Regier opened
the cafe March 17 on
Exeter's Main Street. So
far so good, says
Delbridge, who's happy
with business.
Delbridge says opening a
restaurant is something
she's always wanted to do.
She and her sister contem-
plated opening one in
Bayfield a couple of years
ago, but that didn't pan
out. Once they noticed
there were some vacan-
cies on Exeter's Main
Street, they decided to
open the cafe.
The Gossiping Goose
Cafe is open 7 a.m. to 4
p.m. Monday to Friday
and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Saturday, serving break-
fasts and lunches. The
business also does some
catering for small office
parties and Tasty -Nu
products can be ordered
there.
Delbridge said she and
her sister give their cus-
tomers quality, homemade
meals with generous por-
tions so no one goes home
hungry. Regular coffee,
decaf and flavoured coffee
is always on, she adds.
Renovations to the Main
Street location were
extensive before the busi-
ness could open. The busi-
ness was pretty much gut-
ted, with painting and new
flooring put in.
Delbridge says the cafe
largely attracts the busi-

ness crowd at lunch time,
although they also see a
lot of customers from
London and Bayfield. She
said people are happy the
business opened because
there wasn't much choice
for food in that part of
town.
In addition to Delbridge
and Regier, there are
seven employees at the
cafe.
And the cafe's great
name? Regier's daughter
Lindsay came up with it
and it was chosen from
"about 1,000 names."

Get rid of standing water around your house and drill holes in bottom of used containers
so water can't collect. At least once a week, change water in bird baths. Turn over compost
frequently and clean eavestroughs thoroughly. To learn more visit our Web site or call
