The Times Advocate, 2004-07-21, Page 19Wednesday,July 21, 2004 Exeter Times–Advocate 19 Announcements 'A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline' at Playhouse II By Mary Simmons TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF GRAND BEND — The music of country legend Patsy Cline comes alive at Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend. Conceived and written by Canadian Dean Regan, 'A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline' treats the audience to songs spanning the country artist's remarkable career, while allowing them a glimpse into the events that inspired her and shaped her career. Born in Winchester, Virginia, in the midst of the Depression, she demonstrated musical inclination at an early age. Cline directed her- self towards a career as a singer with unbend- ing single-mindedness, and was at the top of her game when she died in a plane crash in 1963. Her brief career pro- duced the No. 1 jukebox hit of all time, `Crazy,' which set a new stan- dard for Nashville country music. Also included in her rich musical legacy are such classics as `I Fall to Pieces,' `Back in Baby's Arms,' `Walkin' After Midnight,' 'Your Cheatin' Heart,' `Faded Love' and `Sweet Dreams,' all of which are captured by Tracey Flye, who takes on the lead role. She is backed by band members Christopher Mounteer (music direc- tor and keyboards), Jack Whiteside (guitar), Kim Ladd (bass) and Ian MacKay (percus- sion). Patsy Cline was only a big star for a couple of years, but her influence was huge. While the standards of profes- sionalism on her recordings have been Elvis impersonator Dan Granger of London (centre) entertained the crowd at the Community Living Auxiliary's Hawaiian night in Dashwood July 15. Dancing in their grass skirts are Debbie Brownlee and Erin Noels. --1 Coming events...
