Exeter Masters rolling with 4-2 win Fury tie Hispanos
EXETER — After
starting the season
slowly with four losses
and one tie, the
Masters soccer team
have roared back with
three wins and one
loss.
The latest victim
being a first ever win
over the London White
Eagles.
Playing a 3-1-4-2
starting from the back,
the Masters played
their best half of the
season controlling all
aspects of the game.
Shawn Tucker over-
lapping from his left
half position took a
pass from Tony Van
Mierlo and made no
mistake by scoring his
first goal of the year.
Hubert Haccius, who
was left unmarked in
front of the White
Eagles goal,! scored off
a pretty pass from Tony
Vandenheuvel.
A crossing pass from
right half Trevor
McGregor enabled Van
Mierlo to score the
third Exeter goal.
Plays were made in
the first half by the
Masters players leaving
even themselves
amazed.
Near the end of the
first half with Exeter
up 3-0, the White
Eagles team started to
press, resulting in their
first goal.

The second half saw
the White Eagles take it
to Exeter. Being up 3-1
Exeter's defensive
marking slipped a bit
and bent but didn't
break.
An intercepted pass
by Mike Flanagan led
to a Flanagan pass and
Vandenheuvel shot to
put Exeter up 4-1.
Minutes later a White
Eagles forward with a
little added theatrics
was awarded a penalty
shot. He made no mis-
take and the game
ended with a 4-2
Exeter win.
Ron Reymer and Ted
DeJong also had strong
games defensively.
The next game for the
Masters is Wednesday
night away against the
London Wanderers.
Their next home
game is July 30 at 8
p.m. against Benfica.
Crediton juniors play in Chatham tourney
CHATHAM - The Crediton junior
girls fastball team headed to a com-
petitive tournament in Chatham,
made it to the 'B' semi-finals but
ended up losing a tight 6-4 game
against Mississauga.
Crediton 1 vs Wyoming 8
Crediton started the day slowly
with a quick first game
allowing its opponents
seven runs in the first
two innings to cinch the
win.
Jessica Bray led her
team at the plate with a
triple, Megan
Preszcator hit a double
while single hits came
from Jessica Davies,
Kelli Fulton, Janelle
Dykstra and Margaret
Crediton 12 vs Wallaceburg

With a tight 6-5 lead in the sixth
inning, Crediton came out flying in
the top of the seventh inning scoring
six runs.
With their opponents questioning
umpires' calls and trash talking
throughout the inning, the
local girls used their skill and
classy play by pounding the
ball.
Kerri Fulton led her
team at the plate with
a double and two sin-
gles. Jessica Davies
pounded out a double
in the seventh inning
and added a single
hit. Rachel Michielsen
and Megan
Geurts. Jessica Br
Carie Pertschy and
Carrie Dixon pitched for Crediton.
Crediton 2 vs Byron 10
Eight runs in two innings again
seemed to be the demise of the local
squad. Crediton's bats seemed to be
quiet leaving several players strand-
ed on bases.
Kerri and Kelli Fulton led their
team at the plate with a double and
a single apiece. Single hits came
from Jessica Davies, Jessica Bray,
Janelle Dykstra and Carie Pertschy.
Rachel Michielsen was the starting
pitcher for Crediton with relief from
Carrie Dixon.
ay
Preszcator added
three singles, Janelle
Dykstra two single hits and
a double came from the bat Jessica
of Nikki Cyr. Jessica Bray
also scored runs in the seventh
inning with a well-placed home run.
Single hits came from the bats of
Carie Pertschy, Carrie Dixon,
Margaret Geurts and Missy
Pertschy.
Janelle Dykstra, Margaret Geurts
and Jessica Bray pitched superbly
for Crediton.
Crediton 4 vs Mississauga 6
The `B' semi final game was a
great game to watch with skilled
plays, hits and lots of action both
infield and outfield.
Crediton tied up the game in the
sixth inning but with its opponents
two runs in the seventh inning
found the team on the losing side.
Jessica Davies as always played a
strong shortstop position with a
double play and several outs.
Jessica Bray led her team at the
plate scoring the tying run while
going three for three at the plate
with a triple and two sin-
gles.
Nildd Cyr pounded out a
double and single,
Margaret Geurts scored
two runs with a long dou-
ble and two single hits
came from Megan
Preszcator, Jessica Davies
and Carrie Dixon. Katelyn
Squire added a single hit.
Carrie Dixon and Carie
Pertschy pitched for
Crediton.
The most'valuable player
trophy for the tournament was
awarded to Jessica Bray.
Coach's notes: Competitive tourna-
ment play was displayed by the local
team but honourable mention
should go to Nildd Cyr who moved
to the catcher's position in the third
inning of the first game after an
injury by catcher Laura Rollings.
Cyr who had not played this position
for several years demonstrated
great range and skill throughout the
whole tourney.

LONDON — The
Exeter Fury travelled
to London Saturday to
play the first place
Hispanos team and
were able to earn a
point with a 1-1 tie.
Exeter gained the tie
on a goal just
before the whis-
tle blew to end
the game.
Both teams
competed hard
throughout the
game but scor-
ing chances
were hard to r
come by as
strong defensive Andrew Prout
play was the
story of the day.
Joe Forrester did an
excellent job of mark-
ing the leading scorer
of the Hispanos and
call up Ron Reymer
from the Masters team
was solid in his Fury
debut.
In the first half Marty
DeBruyn was hauled
down in the box but no
penalty shot was
issued on the play.
After the scoreless
first half, the home
team got on the board
first after one of their
players was tripped at
the top of the box.
The ensuing shot
beat Fury keeper
Nathan Holmes to give
the Hispanos a one -
goal advantage.
The Fury controlled
the midfield in the sec-
ond half and moved
the ball around well.
Ryan Carroll's hustle
in the midfield
created havoc
for the opposi-
tion on numer-
ous occasions.
Exeter kept
pressing for
the equalizer
and with time
running out
the Fury was
