Your career and the Internet
EXETER — To be competitive in
today's job market, you can use
the Internet to your advantage.
From electronic resumes to
online job searches, the Internet
can help you plan your career by
helping you answer these ques-
tions:
Which Career is Right for
You?
Do you have what it takes to
become a dentist? A welder? A
medical receptionist? The Internet
can help you learn about different
careers, growth industries, job
prospects in various areas of Canada, as well as
average salaries.
To find out more, check out the following sites:
• Human Resources and Skills Development
Canada at hrdc.gc.ca
• Career Experience at careerexperience.com
• National Job Futures at jobfutures. ca
• MazeMaster at mazemaster.on.ca
DoYou Have the Right Education?
You can use the Internet to find out what the edu-
cational requirements are for your chosen career,
and you can research what schools offer the
required courses. You can also learn about study -
abroad programs and volunteer programs designed
to help you build experience.
Some sites you may want to check out are:
• Canada Prospects at careerccc.org
• Career - College.com at career-college.com
• SchoolFinder at schoo finder.com
• youth.gc.ca
How DoYou Find a Job?
The Internet can assist you in researching possible
employers, in preparing a hard copy and online
resume, looking for job postings and learning how
to succeed in interviews. The Internet has thou-
sands of Web sties designed around these topics!
Check out:
• The Canadian Careers Page at canadiancar-
eers.com • youth.gc.ca • Youth Employment
Programs at youth.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca • Jobs, workers,
training, and careers at jobsetc.ca
Online resumes are different from their hard copy
predecessors. There are many places where you
can create and post an online version of your
resume. Some companies even provide a blank
resume for you to fill out when applying for a posi-
tion.
Accessing the Internet
You can access the Internet from a variety of pub-
lic places, including the Exeter Human Resource
Centre of Canada for Students (HRCC-S). We are
located at 281 Main St. S., Exeter. For more infor-
mation on resume and cover letter writing, job
search techniques, and interview skills, contact
Katie at (519) 235-1711. To view our job postings
or to access links to other interesting Web sites,
please visit our Web site at youth.gc.ca.
The HRCC-Ss are part of the Government of
Canada's Youth Employment Strategy.

We all know walking is good exercise. Walking in
sand is even better. You'll burn 20% more
calories because you have to work harder
walking. Sand doesn't push back on your step as
much as solid ground does so you expend more calories.
Like high blood pressure, kidney disease usually progresses silently
often destroying kidney function before causing any symptoms.
Warning signs of kidney disease include: high blood pressure,
passage of cloudy or bloody urine, excessive foaming of the urine,
puffy hands and feet, and frequent urination during the night. Check
with your doctor if you are concerned.
Mosquitoes are a fact of life in most areas of Canada. There are no
mosquitoes in Antarctica but who wants to move there? DEET -
containing insect repellents still work the best. Brand examples
include Deep Woods, OFF and Muskol.
Chemical sunscreens are not recommended for infants under six
months of age. For infants, the best sunscreen is sun avoidance.

HENSALL - Residents, support
workers and staff had a wonderful
time July 15 when they attended
the Community Living Hawaiian
Night at Dashwood Community
Centre. The meal was delicious and
Elvis impersonator Dan Granger
did a great job entertaining the
crowd.
Kippen United Church women
provided assistance and prizes at
bingo Monday afternoon for a good
turn -out of residents. Tuesday
morning eight residents dined fami-
ly -style in the dining room enjoying
eggs cooked to order, peameal
bacon, fruit, toast and lots of tea,
coffee and juice. Volunteer Kay
Mock assisted. Tuesday afternoon
Pastor Elly Van Bergen led worship
with Belva Fuss as volunteer organ-
ist.
Friendly visitors Edna Deitz and
Iva Reid were in Wednesday to visit
and take residents outdoors to
enjoy the courtyard and fountain
area, or just for a wheelchair ride
in the fresh air. Volunteer Marg
Cole was also in Wednesday to
organize the euchre games and had
three tables of competition going.
Coffee and Current Events started
the day Thursday as the weekly
and daily papers were perused and
commented on by the residents
over hot coffee. Later in the day
several people were pampered with
hand soaks and manicures.
Volunteer Klaas Van Wieren bar-
becued juicy hamburgs and hot-
dogs which were served along with
salads to the nursing home resi-
dents who dined outdoors on the
deck and in the courtyard. Donna
Smale and Mrs. Murray East assist-
ed staff to serve the residents. In
the evening, Harvey Smith, Ray
Cann, Don Finkbeiner and Harold
Mills provided lively musical enter-
tainment at Friendship Friday in
the retirement home lounge to end
a very eventful week.
Over 20 staff members recently
completed the refresher CPR
course to maintain their certifica-
tion. Staff benefit from a variety of
educational opportunities offered
each month.

Plan H7-4-909 Contemporary Family Home Active families are ideal candidates for this informal two-level home. A small veranda shelters the front
door, offering a preview of the easy -living style within. The foyer opens to reveal a den on the left, a spacious great room seen through a dramatic
archway and, to the right, a powder room and laundry room. Nine -foot ceilings throughout the main floor add to the airy feeling of this casual living
space. The den is a truly luxurious home office, with double doors that open to a covered rear patio and views of a two-sided gas fireplace that is also
enjoyed from the great room. The large laundry room has access to the double garage as well as to a cloak room, and to the kitchen pantry. The
kitchen has a square work island with an eating bar. Dual sinks are set into a corner with good counter space for growing herbs and a view
overlooking the side garden. A boxed -out dining area has sliding doors that open to a backyard patio; its roof could be made from glass, if solarium
styling is desired. At the top of the stairs to the second level, a short hall leads to four bedrooms and a three-piece bathroom. The master suite has a
gas fireplace, a large window overlooking the back yard, a walk-in clothes closet and a four -piece ensuite bathroom. The three additional bedrooms
share a three-piece bathroom. Bedroom no. 3 has a large window with a deep sill that could be made into a window seat. Exterior trims include river
rock facings on each side of the garage and on the bases of the veranda pillars. Shingle siding accents the large front -facing bedroom window while
vertical boards set in stucco highlight the roof peaks. This home is 37 feet, 6 inches wide by 56 feet, 6 inches deep and has a total
2,217 square feet of finished space. Plans for design H-7-4-909 are available for $576 (set of 5), $661(set of 8) and $715 for a super set of 10. B.C.
