VARNA NEWS
Middlesex County Library
receives re -accreditation
MIDDLESEX —
Middlesex County Library
has once again been rec-
ognized for its excellence.
Library board chairper-
son Doug Reycraft
announced to Middlesex
County council June 8 the
library system has been
re -accredited by the
Ontario Public Library
Guidelines Monitoring
and Accreditation
Council.
Branches in Ailsa Craig,
Dorchester, Glencoe,
Komoka, Ilderton, Lucan
Mt. Brydges, Parkhill,
Strathroy and Thorndale
met or surpassed more
than 100 guidelines deal-
ing with policy, planning,
resources and services.
A score of 90 per cent or
more is required to gain
accreditation under this
program.
Branches open less than
12 hours per week are not
eligible for accreditation.
The audit report com-
ments, "Middlesex County
Library is a very well
organized and well man-
aged system. They have
solid policies in place, as
well as an excellent plan-
ning cycle. The staff of
Middlesex County Library
should be commended for
the excellent planning
and administration of this
large system."
Middlesex County
Library first received
accreditation in 1998.
Accreditation is in place
for five years, so in 2003
county librarian Margaret
Rule applied for re-
accreditation. An exten-
sive two-day audit, based
on the guidelines and
conducted by library
peers, was done in late
2003 and early 2004.
The guidelines program
was established by the
public library community
to recognize excellence in
library service by public
libraries in Ontario. The
audit allows libraries to
match themselves against
an accepted set of guide-
lines. An accredited
library not only demon-
strates it meets provincial
standards of efficiency
and service levels, it also
acts as a leader in raising
the level of public library
service across the
province.
Of the 20 accredited
libraries in Ontario,
Middlesex County is the
only county library sys-
tem so far to receive this
recognition.
Traffic complaints lead
to arrests
EXETER — Huron OPP received two complaints of a
vehicle driving erratically in South Huron in the early
evening June 30.
An officer near the south edge of Exeter spotted the
vehicle, a light grey 2002 Dodge Dakota with four
males inside and stopped it at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The officer's attention was further drawn to this
vehicle when weaving on the roadway was observed
and beer bottles were seen being tossed from the win-
dows.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver was found
with alcohol on his breath.
A check of the vehicle found it had been stolen from
Woodstock recently and the driver was suspended. All
four people in the vehicle were arrested and taken to
the Exeter OPP office.
Breath tests were conducted on the driver and the
results were below the level of criminal charges being
laid for impaired driving. One occupant in the vehicle
produced a false name, which was discovered during
the investigation.
The false name was provided because the male was
under probation conditions.
As a result of the investigation the driver, a 21 -year-
old Woodstock man, has been charged with possession
of stolen property obtained by crime. Another 21 -year-
old Woodstock man has been charged with obstructing
a police officer and breaching probation.
They will attend court in Exeter Aug. 26.
Congratulations to Leanne and Mike Coclough on the
birth of their daughter. Proud grandparents are Steve
and Linda Keys and great grandparents are Arnold
and Nora Keys.
The Armstrong reunion held last weekend was quite
successful with over 200 in attendance. Special thanks
to the committee heads for a well -organized reunion.
A huge thank -you to Ron Armstrong for his wonderful
genealogy display. Members got to view and figure out
where they fit into the Armstrong clan. In the near
future Armstrong will be publishing a book. The com-
mittee will be meeting in September to make plans for
a future Armstrong reunion.

PIanH1-3-514 Informal Plan for Family Living An open kitchen and dining area make this
three-bedroom home ideally suited to the informal lifestyle preferred by many families today.
In place of a formal dining room, space is given to a great room, encompassing a large
kitchen and dining area. A three -sided fireplace adds a cosy ambience on winter evenings.
An abundance of windows, sloping ceilings and a recessed buffet combine to add character
to this practical space year round. The adjacent living room shares the three -sided fireplace
and offers the ideal place to entertain guests before and after dinner. The country -style
kitchen includes a central island with an eating bar, a gas cook top and a separate wall oven.
A garden door leads to a spacious sundeck with a staircase leading to the garden below. The
master suite, with its sloping ceiling, is situated at the rear of the house and enjoys a garden
view. The five -piece ensuite bathroom includes a separate shower enclosure and a soaker
tub set under a large window. Two secondary bedrooms share another three-piece
bathroom. The laundry room has access to the double garage. Coat and storage cupboards
are located in the hallway off the main entrance. The classic exterior of this home is
highlighted by a handsome columned entrance and a covered veranda bordered by a low
brick wall. The house measures 46 feet, 8 inches wide and 58 feet, 10 inches deep. It has
1,551square feet of finished living space. The plan includes an unfinished daylight
basement, which takes advantage of the rear slope of the site and allows for future
expansion. Plans for design H1-3-514 are available for $494 (set of 5), $571 (set of 8) and
$620 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7.5% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $15.00 for
