Ca sule Comments by Ernie Miatello April is Parkinson's Awareness Month. Over 100,000 Canadians live with Parkinson's disease, a progressive, neurological disorder with no cure. It's been said that having Parkinson's is like driving a car with the brake on. Drug therapy helps reduce the braking and helps increase ease of mobility. Apples are kind of neat: One medium apple contains only 80 calories. Its crispness helps clean your teeth; it contains vitamins A and C, potassium, fibre and pectin. It's a great snack food. Have one today! Speaking of vitamins, many products are called vitamins but cannot truly be called that. True vitamins are essential nutrients that cannot be synthesized by our bodies. For that reason, we have to get these vitamins from our food and from supplements. Current evidence does not support the use of syrup of ipecac to induce vomiting in cases of suspected poisoning at home. Activated charcoal is not supported either due to being messy, difficult to use and disliked by children. Best advice is to keep the number of the Poison Control Centre close at hand then call for advice if a poisoning occurs in your home. Pharmacists' dispensing medication in childproof containers has been responsible for a huge reduction in child -poisonings. Still, keep all medications out of the reach of children.
