CAIS information meetings planned
The Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food is rolling out a
series of information sessions to
explain the new approach to safety
net programs for Ontario farmers.
This new approach will consist of
two programs, the Canadian
Agricultural Income Stabilization
(CAIS) program and Production
Insurance.
The CAIS program will direct gov-
ernment funds to producers by com-
bining the stabilization assistance
previously provided by the Net
Income Stabilization Account (NISA)
and the Ontario Farm Income
Disaster Program (OFIDP).
There are 65 information meet-
ings for producers scheduled across
the province between Feb. 16 and
March 18. In addition there are a
series of 16 CAIS information ses-
sions targeted to agricultural finan-
cial advisors in the private sector.
They will take place Feb. 2-12.
The meetings will focus on:
• Explaining the new CAIS pro-
gram and enrolment procedures.
• Winding down current NISA
accounts.
• Updating the parameters for
Production Insurance.
• Highlighting business planning
services now offered under the
Renewal Chapter of the APF.
• Summarizing the goals of the
Agricultural Policy Framework.

In Huron County meetings will
take place in Gorrie at the Howick
Community Centre Feb. 23, 1:30-
4:30 p.m., in Holmesville at the
White Carnation Banquet hall, Feb.
23, 7-10 p.m. and in Clinton at the
town hall, Feb. 24, 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.
In Middlesex County meetings will
take place at the Ilderton
Coldstream Hall, Feb. 19, 9:30 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m. and at the North
Dorchester Optimist building, Feb.
19, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In Perth County meetings will take
place at the Mitchell Community
Centre, Feb. 25, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.;
the St. Mary's Arena, Feb. 25 1:30
p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and in Milverton at
the Perth East Recreation Centre,
March 1, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

aged for information sessions for
financial advisors since space may
be limited. There is a fee of $60 plus

Total Receipts
1439 head of cattle, 610 lambs and goats
Summary
Tuesday: The fed cattle sold at prices $5
to $6 higher. The cows traded on a steady
market. Thursday: The top end veal sold at
prices $2 to $5 higher with the balance
selling at prices steady to last week. The
lambs sold on a strong active trade. Friday:
The calves and yearlings both traded at
prices $2 to $5 higher.
Steers
There were 362 steers on offer selling
from 80 to 88 with sales to 103.
Nelson M. Martin, Wellesley consigned
two limo steers averaging 1280 lbs which
sold to Dominion Meat Packers for 103. His
overall offering of twenty-four steers aver-
aged 1380 lbs selling for an average price
of 90.86. One grey steer consigned by Ken
Shortreed, Walton weighed 1325 lbs which
sold for 97. His overall offering of ten steers
averaged 1392 lbs selling for an average
price of 87.01.

limo steers averaging 1370 lbs which sold

Merkley Farms, Wroxeter consigned one
limo heifer weighing 1275 Lbs which sold
for 100.50. Their overall offering of five
heifers averaged 1340 lbs selling for an
average price of 98.08.
Fifteen heifers consigned by Roy A .
McCulloch, Allenford averaged 1336 lbs
selling for an average price of 89.31 with
his top limo heifer weighing 1395 Lbs sell-
ing for 95.50.

Denfield Livestock Market Report for Tues., Jan. 13, 2004.
The market at Denfield Livestock Sales traded on a strong
active demand at prices $10-$15 higher on all classes of fed
cattle with the fancy cattle in strong demand at premium
prices. Good cows traded active at prices $5-$10 higher.
Don Eedy and Mark Vanderploeg, Denfield sold 29 heifers
average weight 14.40, average price 92 with sales to 104 for a
1550 lb. heifer purchased by Norwich Packers.
