My Trip to Europe
(By Rev. Father L. Marchand)
Utrecht, Netherlands, Sept. 7,'49
Dear Father Paul and Pari hioners:
On Aug. :30th, boarding a boat
destined for Scotland, I left Belfast.
Ireland. As I was leaving this city,
I was impressed by the number of
ship; under construction at this port.
Shipbuilding is one of the leading
industries of Belfast.
I arrived at Glasgow in the even-
ing. I found it a large, busy city of
a large variety of industies. Taking a
bus from this centre, I toured trough
the environing country. As a result,
I have can to the conclusion that
, cotland is an ideal vacationland for
the royalty. What, with its hills and
lakes, m: ti : tains and rivers, its win-
ding roads, woodp, and castres. I
rng'nt mm !tion that during one of
these trips, 1 visited the famous Loch
;Lomond.
The folllowing day I went to Edin-
burgh. The City was observing a
Musical Festival. All the great mus-
icians and lovers of musk from all
parts of Europe were at Edinburgh,
The streets were full of people. Even
Queen Elizabeth and Princess Marg-
aret were there. And music was pla-
yed at newly every corner.
I visited the Palace of Edinburgh,
situated upon a high hill in the centre

Masoe — Mr. and Mrs. Louis Masse
of the B. W. Highway. are happy to
announce the birth of a daughter, on
November 2nd at the Meyers Nursing
Home, Zurich.
Ropp—In Hay Township, on Nov-
ember 2nd, to Mr and Mrs. Alfred
Rapp, a daughter (Linda Dianne)
of the city. How interesting it i to
one, who knows his history. Mary
Queen of Scots had lived here.' That
afternoon I visited the house, which
had ;been inhabited by John Knox, the
founder of Presbyterianism. I also
visited his grave and the church in
which he had preached.

ZION LUTHERAN. CHURCH
Unlike the proverbal prop:iet, the
Concordia College choir of Fort
Wayne, Indiana, is not without honor
in its home city, where Allan J.
Tremper, Fr., music crit:ic.for the Ft.
Wayne Journal •Gazette, said in h'
review of a concert given last spring:
"The Concordia group has already
attained a status of national promin_
ence, and their performance last
night was convincing evidence that
a sincere desire to promulgate the
innate beauty of sacred music, to-
gether with diligent attention to the
peculiar demands of its harmonic
structure, can result in a exceptional
degree of choral refinement for a
group as youthful as this.
+In our opinion, the choir rose to
surprising heights with a tremend-
ously expressive rendition of a pas-
sage from the book of Isiah, "Sure-
ly He Hath Borne Our Griefs," as
set to music by Karl Graun. Equally
outstanding was the treatment given
"The Lullaby of Jesus" and "Chris-
tmas Hymn."
"We wish to pay tribute to the
Concordia College Choir for a mem-
orable concert last night, but more
especially for the salutary influence
that concerts' of this sort should have
on community life. They most gra-
prically demonstrate the importance
of spiritual music, and make of it
a living thing that fills a vital need
for solace and inspiration. To the
young men and young women who
comprise this Choir, and to their
conductor, Mr. Lehman, tor their
tirele s application in bringing pro-
grams of this sort to realization, go-
esour most admiring appreciation.
They have attained remarkable mat-
urity and what is probably most im-
portant will themselves siatrngly ben_
efit from the edifying and education-
al objectives tow ards which their
choral efforts are directed."
The Fort Wayne Concordia .College
Chair will present a concert in ZION
LUTHERAN CHURCH, DASH -
WOOD, on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER
ZOth, at 7.80 p.m.
Thursday, November 10th; 194}
