Want Standard Time
Hay Council held its regular men1-
thly meeting in the Council Cham
bers on Monday afternoon and ha
a very interesting time, as a larg
delegation presented a largely sig
ed petition requesting the Council t
go bark to Standard Tithe, Well th
fact of the' matter is, 'the 'Comic
had never adopted Daylight Time, a
a motion was put through bbyth
Zurich Police' Trustee Board, and i
was announced over the radio tha
Hay Council had adopted the fas was time, which incorrect. It i
regrettable that this is causing
much confusion among a peaceabl
lav; abiding people. We can abet)lately offerno solution for the prob
le.m, and we suppose a person ha
that privilege to turn his clock an
hour ahead or an hour back, it won'
make the sun rise any earlier nor
will it make any 'better weather. Our
St. Joseph corr. is giving' ynur pub
usher a wrap by saying that he is to
get up an hour earlier to do his gar-
dening in the morning instead of get-
ting that hour's break in the levening,
And so time goes on. Newspaper
talk and aruumenting will not change
it, ad we have a right to our own
thoughts, and it is hard to -convince
one otherwise. So let's all make the
best of it and be one big happy fam-
ily, whether the church or school bell
rings an hour earlier, or the train
whistle blows an hour later, we will
all have Cheist.ma on the seine day
and the same time. Cherrio l •

HANDS OFF—IT'S WET -
This year, "wet paint" signs are
appearing in many Canadian door-
wags. All across. the country home
owners are brightening up their
helms in fresh attractive dolours,
buying new modern furnishings, re-
building and redecorating, and so
improving their properties,
For many of these modern -minded
house owners, the Bank of 'Montreal
has been a welcome ally., A B of M
low-cost Personal Loan makes pos-
ible -the cash purchase of materials
and essential honeehold articles.
To those in a position to make re-
payment, the 13 of M is glad to lend
money for any reasonable purpose.
The low rate will surprise you-•-eonly
27c a month for a $100 loan, repay-
able in twelve monthly instalments,
The amount borrowed can be more
or leee, of course, but the cost re-
mains proportionately the same, and
there are no other charges.

SECRETS OF THE
STRATOSPHERE
The dramatic story of space—
hurtling rockets that provide science
with new data about the mysterious
upper atmosphere is told in a special
article, "SECRETS OF THE STRA—
TOSPHERE, one of the many in-
structive and entertaining features
in The American Weekly magazine
with this Sunday's (May 11) issue
of The Detroit Sunday Times,
Our May Snow
Snow is falling quite freely this
Wednesday forenoon, as we round
up our last setting of type. The roofs
were lightly covered with snow this
morning, and the mercury is very
little above freezing. The weather
has been cold and wet the past week
and farmers are having qurse a time
getting in their seeding. However,
that which is sown, they tell us is
doing nicely, However, June is con-
sidered the month of growth, and if
that month 'comes through it will be
good for us all with another bump-
