THIS VERY
INUTE
IF the needy and destitute
of war-torn lands could stand
at your side in their rags
and poverty—and look in
your clothes closet with you .. .
.JF that could happen, and
you saw the plea in their
sunken, death -hounded eyes,
you would give half of your
clothing to warm them.
*THIS VERY MINUTE, I
will' 'go ' and look. They
won't beat my side,but
their voice of thanks will be.
Sponsored by THE BREWING INDUSTRY (ONTARIO) in aid of
NATIONAL CLOTHING COLLECTION, Oct.1 to 20
Because of the man -power short-
age, which was affecting business
throughout the country at the time,
the Bank of Montreal was obliged to
place the'aocal office on a three -day -
a -week schedule in 1942. However.,
with the easing of this situation, it
is again possible to.supply the town
with the full service it requires•.
• Zurich's 'Bank of Montreal was
first opened in 1908.on Victoria St.
Although this sight was not satisfact-
pry, it was not until two years later
chat the bank was 'able to procure a
',etter one. This was in the Merner
lock on the town's main business
korner. The bank carried on its bus-
iness here until destroyed iv' fire in
192,4. That same year, however, the
aaniliar red-brieli. buildfitg4-19.-IA011..the;
bank now occupies, was "built.:on the
old site.
The highlights and depressions of
the town's history have been mirror-
ed hi the history of. the local .office.
When the branch was first opened the
village had two flax mills, a woollen
mill,' a saw mill, a flour mill and four
general stores. After the disastrous
fore' of 1933, a number of new build-
Ings were •ereceted in the town's
'centre and its roads improved. Since
that time the introduction of the Hy-
dro and the advent of More efficient
farming machinery have furthered to
the progress and well being of the
town and surrounding country.
