Farmers are busy preparing wheat
land, turning over anything that
looks dark, for they feel there is not
much use waiting for the bean crop
to be harvested before sowing fall
wheat, for with beans still Blooming
there is a possibility that they will
snake it a bit late for fall wheat.
Labour Day has again come and
gone and many visitors. from differ-
ent parts have taken full advantage
of it. This ancient holiday, tho not
proclaimed as such, till the beginning
of this present century, dates back
before the time of the fall of the
Roman Empire, In that time the poor
were refused many libertces from
the riclt.and even a day of recreation
were denied them, and many other
privileges. Until the Roman Church
passed a decree to hold a jubilee ev-
ery few yeare from. whence the poor
were not given a holiday, but their
lost propettie's were 'redeemed and
returned to that former owner. Thus'
winning a point for the labouring
man; as they are considered' he poor.
And after many centuries of dorm-
ant the laborer awoke, organized and
forming unions and forcing, the auth-
orityies of the country to grant them
a holiday and a little later was known
as today, Labour Day, public holiday.

The retailer also plays a part. He must obtain coupons
or other valid ration documents against every sale he
makes of rationed foods—butter, sugar, preserves
and, when meat rationing becomes effective again,
meat. Otherwise, he cannot replenish his stocks. H
must paste all coupons on gummed sheets and endorse
each sheet with his name and address. if his monthly
food sales total $2,500 or more, he is required to
operate a ration coupon bank account. He must also

can make supplies of these foods last. She must know
the coupon values of all rationed preserves and meats.
