THE CASE OF THE MISSING
HINDU- BEAUTY
No. 1 in the series of articles,
"Whereabouts Unknown" by Inez
Robb, starting in The American We-
ekly with this Sunday's (August 12)
issue of The Detroit Sunday Times.
In. this series will be told the story
of New York City's famous Bureau
of Missing Persons, which handles
32,000 disappearances yearly, solving
9,9% of them. Get Sunday's De-
troit Times.
Mr and MIs. Gordon Prance and
children and Miss Kathleen flay ; of.
Exeter were Sunday visitors at the
home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. Hay.
Miss Patricia O'Dwyer, nurse -in -
training at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, and Miss Shirley Krueger,
and brother Ralph of that city re-
turned to the home of their parents,
on Saturday evening for holidays.
MEAT TO BE RATIONED:
The rationing of meat in Canada
will go into effect again by Sept. 1
and perhaps earlier. This was indic-
ated in an address by Donald Gordon
Price Board chairman. He said that
meat rationing, being imposed again
after being abandoned in Feb. 19414,
would be tighter than previously.
This time it is designed to cut down
consumption so that more. meat can
be sent to hungry lands overseas.
SCHOOL NURSING SYSTEM
DON'T WASTE SUGAR
Even with every man, woman and
child in Canada sugar-conservtion-
conscious, it is still the easiest thing
in the world for Canadians to waste
almost 13 tons of sugar a day. A
few grains are spilled, some is left
undissolved at the bottom of a tea
or coffee cup; the empty cereal .bowl
almost always retains a little. It all
adds up. If each Canadian fam-
ily only wasted one teaspoon a day
in ways like this, that one family's
teaspoonful multiplied by the single
spoons of all the families across Can-
ada would come to 26,000 pounds of
sugar or 13 tons wasted every single
day. It is enough to make you look
at your sugar ration book with a ma-
gnifying glass.
The school nursing system author-
ized by Huron County Council will
be inaugurated in August, according
to plans made by the health and hos-
pital committee, and will be in shape
when schools are re -opened in Sept-
ember. Miss Helen B. Gardner, of
Niagara Falls, has been engaged as
supervisor, and Miss Mildred Haber-
er of Zurich, and Miss Jean Falcon-
er of Brucefield, as school nurses.`It
is hoped to secure another nurse in
the near future. The head office will
be in Clinton, in a building rented.
THIEL RE -UNION
On Monday the 10th annual Thiel
Ite-union was held at Mitchell in the
Canadian Legion Building where re-
latives numbering about 160 met to
renew old and new friendships. A
delicious hot dinner was served in
the hall after a game of ball along
with other sports were enjoyed. Five
returned men from overseas were a-
mong the group and were presnted
with a $10. bill each as a .gift from
the relatives. One of the relatives
'vas killed and .one wounded in the
war. Mr. Andrew Thiel of Zurich,
who is 86 years young was the old-
est member present and baby Paul
Hohner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clar-
ence Hohner of Bayfield, was the
youngest member, each receiving the
prize for the same. Next year the
event will be celebrated in Zurich.
The election of officers was as foll-
ows; Honorary. President, Mr. An-
drew Thiel; President, Henry Claus-
ius; Vice -pies., Peter Deichert, Jr;
Secy-Treas. Mrs. Harvey Ciausius;
Lunch committee, Mrs. Chas. Thiel,'
Mrs Norman Fleischauer; Sports Carl
Haberer, Supper was served in
cafeteria style. The guests returned
to their respective homes much re-
freshed with the good time spent to-
gether,
