At first glance, you get the idea it
would have been a great thing for sport
in America, a fine thing to cement interna-
tional friendships, if Emil Zatopek, the
champion runner of the Olympic Games,
had accepted an invitation from officials of
the government of the United States, en-
dorsed by President Truman, to visit this continent and show the
citizens of democracy the unmatched speed and endurance that
swept him to three Olympic crowns.
Now we're glad Zatopek didn't accept. For, as it turned out,
he is a mere tool of the Soviet's efforts to seize even upon the
Olympics as a medium for propaganda.
