I hate housecleaning; I really
do! So it was that, a few years
ago, I devised this rather nonsen-
sical way of releiving its tedium.
Most of us have our little col-
lection of souvenirs and old let-
ters and I am no exception. But
as the need for storage space in-
creased, I began to look at my
hoarded box with begrudging eyes.
And yet they were my only ties
for-
ever.with anyrs Iahated to part with them.
So this is what I did. I scattered
them all through the house.
In this box of books, into which
I delve only every five or six years
to see what is really there, 1 slip-
ped the letters from my penpals,
almost forgotten, but still dear.
These were the giddy, chatty let-
ters written as only a Grade
Nine girl could write—just to re-
mind
imy own (head was full that
of little
else but boys and beauty problems
too.
On the self where the skates and
galoshes all stacked

damaging heels is the Mother's
Day decoration, laboriously con-
structed by a certain six year old
some years ago. I never fail
lbto
chuckle over its oddly phrased
ut
obviously sincere little message.
In the bottom of the cedar chest
are the family photos, which I
pour over on the day I air my
blankets. These often reveal re-
semblance I never knew existed,
as the children grow and change
with the seasons,
The newsy, cheerful letter
from my another always brings her
domse used draws er whereout the sel-
one of her
last letters is tucked.
Then it occasionally is well to
re -read one of those dear, senti-
mental notes to remind one that
under the matter-of-fact, every-
day

ago.
Sometimes I am in too great a
hurry or not in the mood to read
my treasured notes. But always
I tuck them back in their places,
where they wait to whisk me out
of my suds and dirt and back to
the "good old days." Thus, while
I visit with old friends, in old
places. I often fail to notice how
tired I am, or even how badly the
wood -work needs painting after
the crayon marks are scoured off.
