A Good Man
This is a brief story. One could
read it in a single evening. It is a
touching tale concerning Albert
Clayton, a negro tenant farmer
of the Deep South, who dared to
think of improving his old grey
cabin with a paint job, even at
his own expense. His revelation
of his thoughts shocks not only
the white neighbours, but even his
coloured friends, yes. even Louel-
la, his wife, and brings nothing
but misery and persecution to him-
self and his family. (A novel by
Jefferson Young) .

Hensall \VMS Confers Life Membership
To Mrs. George Hess for Faithful Work
(By our Hensall Correspondent)
The Woman's Missionary Soc-
iety of Hensall United Church met

monthly meeting, with Mrs. R. M.
Peck's group in charge, and Mrs.
Peck presiding. A reading "This
Old Clay House", by Mrs. R. J.
Paterson; vocal duet, "He Arose",

rge Armstrong; sacred passages,

fered by Mrs. J. Horton.

ment and the Immigrant in Cana-
da" was taken by Mrs. Peck and
Mrs. E. Sproat, and the group
rendered a selection, "The Old
Rugged Cross".
Mrs. Armstrong took the bus-
iness part of the meeting and Miss
Jennie Buchanan received the off-
ering. Mrs. Roobol and Mrs. Dan-
iel were appointed delegates to the

ing. We can draw them unto our-
selves as the fly does the air.
But as the fly does, we must ex-
pell what we have taken in and
then open our minds and hearts
to take in a fresh supply.
What can we do to become good
citizens? (1) Become well inform-
ed on civic issues. Know all candi-
dates running for office and sup-
port those of highest morals. (2)
Exercise your right of franchise
(vote). (3) Accept office if it is at
all possible for you to do so. (4)
Be the best representative if you
are elected to office. (5) Contri-
bute something toward the advan-
cement of any good cause. (6) Pay
your taxes cheerfully. (7) Obey
all the laws of our country. (8)
Be kind to all fellow citizens, es-
pecially our New Canadians. Good
relationship with others means
that we must look for the best
in other persons. Abraham Lin-
coln said, "You can catch more
flies with honey than with vine-
gar." We must help others. Is any-
one else happier because you have
crossed his path? (9) Take a keen
interest in your school. On Tues-
day when Open House was obser-
ved in Zurich School, 80 parents
registered, so this was an encour-
agement for the pupils as well as
the teachers. The work in the
rooms was very well done and in-
teresting.
Mrs. Newell Geiger gave a rea-
ding, "Which Wind is Best?" A
vote of thanks was extended to
Mrs. Amacher for typing the let-
ters on Daylight Saving Time. A
motion was passed to send five
dollars to St. John's Ambulance
Fund, and $10.00 to the Zurich
Fair Board.
Mrs. Nancy Koehler and Mrs.
Ed. Schroeder are the nominating
committee who will bring in a new
slate of officers for the April
meeting.
Lunch was served by Mrs. E.
Hey, Mrs. Chester Smith, Mrs.
William Forrester and Mrs. Newell
Geiger.
