John Yaremko, Toronto MP, Is New
Minister of Transport for Ontario
Honourable John Yaremko was
sworn in as Ontario Minister of
Transport on December 22, 1958.
He has been the member of the
Ontario Legislature for Toronto-
Bellwoods since the 1951 general
election.
Mr. Yaremko has already a
broad, practical knowledge of the
work of the Department of Trans-
port. It was at his suggestion that
the Select Committee on Highway
Safety was appointed in 1954.
Most of the recommendations
made by that committee of which
Mr. Yaremko was a member have
since been implemented. He was
appointed chairman of the Legis-
lature's Standing Committee on
Highway Safety in 1956, 57 and
58 sessions. He was a member of
the Toll Roads and Financing
Committee,
Ontario's new Minister of Tran-
sport was born in Welland, Aug-
ust 1918, the second of eleven
children of George and Mary Yar-
emko who had emigrated from the
Ukraine to Canada in 1912. He
grew up in Welland and Hamilton
and at the age of 14 became an
Alderman on the Hamilton Muni-
cipal Boy Council while attending
Central Collegiate Institute.

Mrs• S. Litwiller
Mrs. Simon Litwiller, Manson,
Iowa, died last Tuesday in a Fort
Dodge hospital, where she was ta-
ken earlier in the day after suf-
fering severe burns.
She was injured sometime last
Monday morning when she reach-
ed over her stove for something
and her clothing caught on fire
from a pilot light. She managed
to smother the flames in a rug
and went to bed. Her husband
found her when he arrived home
at .noon, and she was rushed to
the hospital.
Funeral service was held on
Thursday at the Manson Mennon-
ite Church,
Mrs. Latwiller is survived by
her husband; two sons and two
daughters, GIen and Earl of Man-
son, Mrs. Mervin Gerber, Adams-
ville, Pa., and Mrs. Eldon King,
Conneaut Lake, Pa. Mrs. Chris
Erb, Zurich, is a twin sister of
Mrs. Litwiller.
Attending the funeral from this
district were: Mr. and Mrs. Leon-
ard Erb, Emmerson Erb, Albert
Erb and Mrs. Ervin Gingerich.
Mrs• Alcide Houle
Mrs. Alcide Houle, 66, died
Monday, January 12 at RR 1,
Eberts, Ontario.
Surviving are her husband, two
sons, Robert and Evarist at home
and two daughters, Mrs. Hubert
Urquhart, Dover Township; Flor-
ence at home; three brothers,
Charles and Albert Bedour of Zur-
ich, John of Forest; four sisters,
Mrs. John Rau of London, Mrs.
John Cadotte, Wallaceburg, Mrs.
Orville Houle of Chatham and
Mrs. Norman Overholt of Zurich.
Remains rested at Himzegan
funeral home, Chatham. Services
were held Wednesday at 9,30 a.m.
at the Blessed Sacrament Church
at Chatham.
Mrs. 0. Ducharme
Mrs. Oscar Ducharme, the for-
mer Anna S. Denomme, passed
away in Clinton Public Hospital
last Wednesday after a lengthy i11 -
r ss. Born at St. Joseph, Mrs.
Ducharme was in her 77th year.
Surviving besides her husband
are five sons: Paul and Urban,
both of Hay Township; Urban,
Brussels; Regis, London; Dominic,
Sarnia; four daughters, (Vinetta),
Mrs. Charles Hartman, Sarnia;
(Dorothy) Mrs. Kermit Burley,
Sarnia; (Lillian) Mrs. Joseph
Martindale, Port Huron; and
(Reta) Mrs. Emery Bedard, Gode-
rich. 58 grandchildren and 49
great-grandchildren are also sur-
viving.
Mrs. Ducharme was a life mem-
ber of the Immaculate Conception,
the Catholic Women's League, St.
Joseph's, St. Jude, St. Anna and
Precious Blood.
Requiem mass was sung in St.
Boniface Roman Catholic Church,
Zurich, on Friday at 10 a.m., with
burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Father C. E. Doyle officiated.
Alf. Win. Reichert
A lifelong resident of Hay
Township, Alfred William Reichert
passed away last Thursday in
Clinton Public Hospital, in, his
82nd year. He was born in Hay
Township, where he farmed all his
life.
Surviving besides his wife, the
former Lovina Fuss, are three
sons: Orland, Hay Township; Er-
vin, Clinton; and Ivan, at home;
one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Laur-
etta) Fields, Hay Township. There
are also eight grandchildren.
The body rested at the Westlake
funeral home until Sunday, when
removal was made to St. Peters'
Lutheran Church, Zurich. Service
was held at 2.30 p.m., with inter-
ment in the Lutheran Cemetery.

YOUNG LIBERALS MEET
(Lucknow Sentinel)
A young Liberal Association for
the riding of Huron -Bruce came
into being at two separate meet-
ings last week. The new associa-
tion will work in support of Rae
J. Watson, Lucknow, Liberal can'-
didate in the next provincial elec-
tion.
Meetings were held on Tues-
day and Wednesday nights at the
Watson home in West Wawanosh
township. Organizing, and speak,
ing to the group on both nights
was `David Greenspan -of Toronto,
assistant secretary of the Ontario
Liberal Association.
