Zurich Citizens News, 1959-01-14, Page 10PAGE TEN ZURICH Citizens NEWS WEDNESDAY, JANUAir:Y 14, 1958' Stephen Township Council Makes Appointments at Inaugural Meeting Stephen township council has called for applications for as» sessor after hearing a request for an increase in salary from its present assessor at the inaug- ural meeting Monday. Donald Gasier, Dashwood, who who was appoiinted last year at his tender price of $650, asked council for $1,000 in 1959. Council decided it would give other ratepayers in the township an opportunity to bid on the posi- tion before granting the increase. A special meeting will be held January 17 to review applications. A grant of $35 was given to the Dashwood Skating Club which is providing a rink for district child- ren near the Lutheran church, and council donated $35 to the Salva- tion Army, an increase of $10 over last year's contribution. Reeve Glenn Webb, Deputy - Reeve Edward Gill and Council- lors Stephen Dundas, James Hay- ter and Edmund Hendrick were sworn into office by Clerk James Mawhinney at the 11 a.m. open- ing of the inaugural session. Scripture and prayer were pro- vided by Rev. Dr. Robert Hiltz, new minister of Crediton and Shipka United Churches. Reeve Webb treated council and officials to dinner at Rether's Res- taurant, Exeter, and the group posed for an official portrait. Retiring reeve, John Morrissey, attended the session to provide advice to the new council. Council meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month. Appointments included: Relief officer, Glenn Webb. Ausable Authority representa- tive, Edmund Hendrick. Community Centres Boar d, Glenn Webb and Stephen Dundas, one-year terms; Lawrence Hill, Henry Beaver, Albert Gaiser, Mrs. Ross Krueger and Mrs. John Wade, two-year terms. SHDHS representative, R.o y Morenz, two-year term. Truant officers, Otto Willert, Wilmar Wein and W. H. Love. Auditor, A. M Harper, Goder- ich.
