Need More Rain
The rain which fell during the
past days was welcomed, but not
enough has come down to make
the land fit for ploughing, accord-
ing to local farmers. More rain is
also needed to fill the surface
wells before winter sets in.
Correct W'ay For
Storing Machines
Explained by OAC
Many farmers have now finished
using some machines for this year.
and will shortly be putting them in
storage until next spring.
Care taken now to prepare them
for winter storage will pay divi-
dends, states Prof. J. R. Scott, De
partment of Engineering Science,
Ontario Agricultural College. He
suggests the following:
1, Thoroughly clean and inspect
all machines and apply grease or
rust inhibitor to exposed or wear-
ing surfaces to rpevent rust.
2. Remove any canvases, fabrics,
or V -belts and store them separ
ately in a cool, dry place.
3. Thoroughly lubricate all bear-
ings and fittings to force out mois-
ture.
4. Block rubber -tired vehicles
off the ground to take the weight
off the tires.
5. If there is no room inside a
building, and a machine must be
stored outdoors, a tarpaulin oz.
plastic cover thrown over the
machine will keep out damaging
moisture.
Many farm machinery manufact-
urers outline winter storage sug
gestions in their machinery hand-
books. Following these suggest-
ions can save many dollars on an
expensive investment.
