Sugar and Spice
(continued from page two)
up to the corner for some cold
pop, and sit around grinning at
your guests in amiable agony.

Your wife comes down, a bit
red -eyed, but looking pretty fair.
She's done something to her hair.
The coldsore its buried under a
quarter -inch of makeup, She's
smiling with fierce gaiety and
says what a lovely surprise to
have them drop in. And when
she walks past you to make a pot
of tea, she throws you a look
that would have curdled the blood
of Attila the Hun.
With a faint glimmering of hope,
you ask Ernie if he Likes to golf
or fish. "Never could see much in
it", says Ernie, and your heart
,hits your heels. Ernie, it turns
out, is a curler, and he spends 40
minutes of as warm summer even-
ing telling you about the trophy
his team would have won last Feb-
ruary, if one of the boys haddena
hadda noff night.
In: the meantime, your wife is.
telling Elsie, as she turns out to
be, what lovely children she has,
Just at this minute, there is a
scream of terror from outside, and
one of the lovely children comes
in. With blood running out of her
head, where your srniall daughter
clobbered her with a pop bottle.

Let's draw a veil over the rest
of the weekend, shall we? Except
'to mention that Ernie developed
a nasty habit of telling- you, in
front cif your wife, about a. the
work he does around the house,
one of their kids got into the
,poison ivy 'when you took them
on the picnic, and Elsie got a bat
frigid • after.;. hearing one of your,
kids privet "Isn't she a silly lam?"'
