With the sur- rounding teen age boy and girl friends, Peter gave his friends a weiner roast on the beach, on the Bossenberry property. Lunch and refreshments were served to ev- eryone's heart's content, The evening was an enjoyable one near the lake, all was still along the shore, the night was calm with the exception of a weak rippling sound of the near -by wat- er. It was perhaps a little past mid -night when the party broke up, extending to their host Peter, many thanks and many more hap- py birthdays. Our Stroll Through St. Joseph Last week we left you in the surroundings of the Cantin home where we were given a welcome to enter their house. They were courteous and after passing on the how -do's of the day and a little chit chat we were presented with scripts and photos which dated back to the founding of St. Joseph. The script was very interesting to read as well as instructive. The photos were of some of the early citizens of the district, and of the parish, while others came from other lands, seeking to better their standard of living and to make St. Joseph their permanent home. After closely examining the photos I could recognize some of them. All of that was very inter- esting to me, and from that I could bring back my thoughts to those many years gone by. The Cantin's also had property up the hill where they had built cottages, some of them they sold while others they kept for rental income. We viewed the spot at the foot of the hill where once was the clay pit for making brick and tile, and where it was hauled up the narrow hill in a single horse cart and dumped in the yard and then pressed into brick and tile. We then continued our stroll up the h61f,' where once stood the St. Joseph brick and tile yard, and where a number of qualified men were employed for the work dur- ing the summer months. There are still fragments where once stood the kilns, and morsels of brick and tile can yet be seen. There is also on the grounds of the old brick and tile yard a rock well which supplied the necessary water for the yard. The hill today is in good state of repair, and is used by the Cantins to reach their home. The gully where the clay was dug for the brick and tile has now been shor- ed to preserve it from washouts. This July stroll was pleasing to me, I received much informa- tion from the Cantin family which I had already forgotten, and with some of the hints I had received I am able today to sum together some of those past incidents. We were glad of the courtesy we received from the family. Joseph Cantin is the son of N. M. Cantin, the founder of the one time sur- veyed city of St. Joseph. This concludes our July stroll, from it we received much enlight- enment. 0_ Everyone Reads The Classifieds WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 6, 1958; z7 y ' P Inquire about Low GrainCasts In Truck Load Lots (DELIVERED TO YOUR, FAR11'I) SERVICE PROVEN CONCENTRATES for POULTRY, HOGS and CATTLE M.
