'LIMPS TO BLAME?
FORMER PITCHING STAR RETURNS
Ron Heller, a Detroit boy, who toiled on the mound for the
locals during the 1953 and 1954 baseball seasons has returned to
:strengthen the already powerful Lumberkings, who are making a
runaway of the 1958 Huron -Perth schedule. However, manager Tom
Rawlings, in believing that another top-notch pitcher was needed to
assure the Lumberkings of a crack at the O.B.A. Intermediate "C"
,championchip, signed Heller, who, according to his past performances
in a Lumberking uniform, seems highly capable of filling the bill.
Since leaving Zurich in 1954, Ron has seen service in both the
Kansas City Athletics and Baltimore Orioles chain. In 1955, after
,a 3-3 record with the Michigan State University team, Ron was
signed by Kansas City scout Herb Strunk and was assigned to
Crowley, Louisiana in the Class "C" Evangeline League. After com-
piling a 3-2 record, Ron developed arm trouble and was sent to iron
it out by playing winter ball in California. After spending two years
at California where he attended the University of California at Los
:Angeles (U.C.L.A.), Ron was picked up by Baltimore Oriole scout
Les Berry and assigned to the North Battleford Combines in the
Western Canadian League. Incidentally the Edmonton Eskimos,
-who perform in the same league, came within one pitch of capturing
the Global World Series which was held last year in Detroit's Briggs
Stadium. In addition, Ron, who was unable to come to agreements
with the North Battleford club and so had to return to Detroit and
hence to Zurich, has been invited to turn out with the Edmonton
club next year. By the way, Ron will probably be getting the
starting assignment against the powerful Mitchell Legionaires tonight.
LUMBERKINGS STILL ON TOP
With more than half of the regular season completed, the
Lumberkings •are already the dominating force of the Huron -Perth
:Baseball League. Neither the supposedly powerful Dashwood Tigers
nor the Mitchell Legionaires have yet to conquer the lofty Lumber -
kings. During the past two weeks the local nine has encountered
:and triumphed over Dashwood to the tune of 4-2, and trounced
Mitchell by an 8-4 score.
Big bruising Bill Yuegblut wielded the big bat in the 4-2
victory over the Tigers as he drove in the four runs, by means of
:a double in the first inning and a tremendous triple in the seventh.
Excellent relief pitching by Lucan Irish Star Bob White, who also
-won the Mitchell game, staved off .a determined Dashwood bid to take
'the lead in the fifth inning and he continued on to pitch hitless ball
,during the rest of the game.
Gerry Bell's bases loaded triple was the big blow in the
Lumberking's victory over the Legionaires, who, by the way, are
'quite confident of cracking the Lumberking's string of victories at
the local diamond tonight.
Since Zurich fans have always supported winning teams we
,expect to see you there.

Williams' Mighty Clout Highlights Excursion to Detroit
The Lumberkings, several other local baseball fans and Ray-mee
Wein of the Dashwood Tigers, experienced one of the greatest
possible thrills in baseball when thumping Ted Williams bounced a
tremendous three -run homer off the right -centre field roof of
Briggs Stadium to salt :away a 10-7 victory for 6' 5" Frank Sullivan,
The mainstay of the Boston Red Sox pitching staff. The ninth inning
:strike -out of Gus "Ozark -Ike" Zernial with the tying runs on base
was a severe blow to the ardent Tiger fans.
(Ringer Fails To Help Faltering Dashwood Nine
The 'acquisition of former St. Thomas Elgin star, Bob Stormes,
:has failed to bring the hapless Dashwood Tigers out of their dold-
rums. In an attempt to keep up with the powerful Lumberkings,
'the Tiger managerial brass rushed Stormes to Dashwood (where he
has supposedly been living since the first of May). Most Zurich fans
feel that if the Dashwood crew want to properly compete with the
local nine they will have to import a whole team.
Quip With A Bite
What little Dom Dallessandro lacked in stature, he made up in
fight and hustle. One hot afternoon umpire George Magerkurth
,called him out on a borderline strike.
Little Dom carne storming back, breathing fire and brimstone.
The hulking umpire glared down at the sputtering runt.
"Dallessandro," he grunted, "if you don't shut up, I'll bite your
head off."
"If you do," Dom shot back, "you'll have more brains in your
big belly than you have in your head!"
