At any time, night or day, she may be asked to open her 'home to some frightened, .unhappy ilitttle human, confused by having his home suddenly dissolved be- neath him. To these poor little ones, Mrs. Meyers opens not only her home but her heart. More than body comfort they need the comfirt of being loved and wan- ted. Of this love for children, Mrs. Meyers seems to have a boundless supply. Often the bab- les she receives d-iave been. neglec- ted and ,undernourished in their own homes. The more retarded the child the more of a challenge it is to her. At present she has a child, who, at the age of six weeks, carne to her showing all the symptoms of being hopelessly retarded. While some would have felt at once that it would be a waste of time, Mrs. Meyers, saw that it received the special treat- ments it needed. Now she can have the satisfying knowledge that through her tireless .efforts, knowledge that their own parents it can some day hope to assume ,do not want them. a comparatively normal life. Previous to doing shelter work, Mrs. Meyers ran a nursing home. During this time and up to the present, over 500 children have lonely too, since your children passed through her hands. Her great- est payment .lies in the knowledge that her services are greatly need- ed, and an most cases, deeiply ap- preciated. It is when they express their appreciation of pleasant childish memories made possible only through her efforts, that Mrs. Meyers is inspired to carry on. Each one is spec- ial, and there is .always enough special love and care for each one. Her helping hand is always half outstretched and ready. I know how far behind she is 5n her own personal tasks. I know that she never has time in any twenty-four hours bo get caught up.
