To Seek Oil
That oil is to be found in profit -
:able quantities on certain farm. prop-
eerties n Goderich township between
Goderich and Clinton VITaSi revealed:by
T. G. Ferris, Toronto geologist. Mr..
Ferris, who has surveyed oil lands in
almost every section a this contin-
ent, stated that there were bright
prospects of oil and ales maim. magas
in Goderich tcrovirship farms extend-
ing for a distance o4 about 15 miles.
The valuable mineral will be found
possibly three thousand feet below
the surface'. A number of friends of
Mr. Ferris, having readings of what
might lie hidden below the srface of
these lands, requested' him to come
to Goderich and give Ms opinion on
the matter. The geologisht anti:dilates
-the sinking of a cfiscovery shaft some
time in the rate summer.

Deficit of 30 Millions Likely
Toronto --Several more millions of
dollars havebeen added to the deficit
which the Provincial Treasurer will
report for the fiscal year ending last
OCtober, -when he makes his first
budget presentation in the Legislat-
ure this Thursday. First intentions of
the Government were, it is said, to
report aedeficit of between $25,000,-
000 and $27,000,000 but last minute
calculations will shoot that deficit
fairly close to the $30,000,000 mark.
Of that sum, some $17,000,000, as
previously forecast, is attributable to
direct relief expenditure.

aria Flare Mills Company has hit
many local people a hard blow. Nuni
bers of widows as well as the bene-
ficiaries of different estates have en-
joyed a Batisfactory income from
this source for a long time. In some
cases all of a family's income has
been derived from the one concern
and ,families are left destitute. For-
tunately, there is no suspicion of dis-
honesty on the part of any official
and it is believed to be just a matter
of time before payment will be re-
sumed. The general condition of the
milling trade is claimed to be resp-
onsible for the company's lowered
income.—Gnderich Star.
