Judging from the large demand for poultry marked by the official grades, it is apparent that Canadians are becoming familiar with those grades. More tagged poultry was displayed and sold on grade during the recent holiday season than in any year since grade tagging was in troduced. In 1900 Canada exported 470,000 barrels of apples; by 1920 this hid increased to 1,238,000 barrels, and for the shipping season 1933-34 all records were broken with a total of 3,476,114 barrels shipped out of the country. In 1900 Canada's export apple trade was confined to nine co -i unties; by 1932 36 counties; by 1932 36 countries received Canadian ap- ples. Poultry Returns Up Returns from, poultry -raising in 1934 showed a slight improvement over the previous year, according to the Department's survey. The price of eggs averaged 3 cents per dozen higher during the first eleven months of 1934 than during the same period in 1933, November prices, however, were about 7 cents peer dozen less than the previous year, accounted for by the milder weather and larger production as compareed with very :old weather and limited production in 1933. *Vold. Air Cater Ls:+,• r. 1 One of the reasons many pullet, fail to lay well during the winter, in spite ofgood feeding, is the damp and stagnant air to be found' in many poultry houses. Many "poultry keep - ::re close up nearly all, ventilators fen whiter approaches, under the 'repression that the fowl need the warmth. Fresh air is far more im- aortant than warmth, and many bat - 1 e+a oi' pollees that fail to cotes into production at the proper age are suf- fering from this mistaken idea.
