Farmers repot*t that the early se- eding is now practically all in, and farmers are awaiting a good rain to stimulate growth. However, some grain that has been sown a week a- go is now coming up nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. T. Truemner of the 14th con., spent the week -end at Milverton, where on Saturday afternoon the remains of Mrs. _True- mner's father, the late Peter Cook, were removed from the vaults of the cemetery and entered in the Cemet- ery proper. This is usually done by the undertaker without any relig- ious ceremony. Three Candidates for South Huron W. W. Cooper, of Kippen, announ- ced his candidature as an Independ- ent Farmer candidate in South Hur- on where George H. Elliott and Jas. Ballantyne are already the Conserv- ative and Liberal candidates resp- ectively. It will be remembered that 18 months ago Cooper threw his hat into the ring in the South Huron byelection for the Federal House. He dropped out a week be- fore nomination day. Mr. Cooper said- that if the temperance forces of South Huron are looking for a can- didate, as has been stated, he would be pleased to be their standard-bear- er. . The esti- mated total returns on pasture in. the form of Iive stock products from: June to October yearly is approxi- mately $40,000,000. Of this $34,- 000,000 is derived from dairy prod- uce. Results from experiments have shown that by proper management and improving fertility of the soil returns could be increased -from 100---200 per cent. on a very Iarge proportion of pasture, The Best Varieties of Grain A new pamphlet bearing the above title and prepared by the Cereal Div- isi.on, Experimental Farms Branch, is .now ready for distribution. This pamphlet lists the varieties which are recommended province by prov- ince' across Canada in. the case of wheat, oats, barley, peas and fax for seed. A separate pamphlet pre- pared jointly by the Cereal Division and the Ontario Agricultural Coll- ege, dealing with both spring and winter wheat in Ontario, is also a.v- ailable. Two factors that have most to do with the revenue from eggs are the prices received and the rate of pro= 3 action. Unfortunately the price paid for the product is not always abject to the will of the poultryman ut the rate of production is in his ands and his alone. A much higher yield is within reach of any breeder who will give sortie axe to 111s ll©p3 A good m Ie has :been known to pay .for himself many times ovei'.At one of the Dominion Experimental Branchfarms, a careful selection of ceders has resulted in an average n.crease over five years of 73 eggs er hen, the production being raised rom 141 to 241. The Egg Laying contests also have demonstrated what s possible to be done in good farm ocics. Since the contest started in, 1019 ,the average yield has increased NM 120 to 1'T8, The average pro - 'action in the 1931-32 contest was 1'7v eggs, and as this average was alien from a total of 4,370 birds, uttered by 437 •breeders in the 13 omt sts throughout the vrhole Dorn - the .average may be taken as 1 sir for the better classes of breed- rs in Canada, hr Sr 1V—Irene Foster 72, F f Farwell 69.
