Death of Wrn. l{. Walper of Cavalier
The people of Cavalier and vicinity
were grieved and shocked to hear of
the death of Mr. Wm. K. Walper,
one of the oldest and most respected
citizens recently in an accident at.
the Walper farm east of Cavalier,
from which he died one hour from
internal injuries. Mr. Walper and
son Almon were at the farm housing
a threshing machine for the winter,
and. it was standing inside the shed
close to a rolling door when the sep-
arator caught the door pulling it off
the track throwing lVh. Walper un-
der the rear wheel of the machine
,which passed over his left shoulder
and side. Medical aid was summoned
and everything done possible to reli-
eve his suffering but he died one hour
later from internal injuries. Wm. K.
Walper was born near Dashwood,
Ont., Nov. 7th, 1854. He came to
Pembina County in 1879 and took
up a homestead. The following year
he was married to Leah Geiger with
whom he shared life for 53 years.
Four children were born to this mar-
riage. He was an active member of
the Evangelical church for 50 years
serving in various capacities of the
Zion church east of Cavalier. He
had served as a member o`f the City,
Council and was at the time of his
death a Member of Cavalier School
Board. He retired from active farm-
ing in 1905 and has lived in Cavalier
until the time , of his death. Surviv-
ors are his aged wife, fuor children,
Norma of Anamoose, N.D., Mrs. Sara-
ucl H6dginson, Almon and Mrs. W.
