Love is engaged in tea - eking. STANLEY TOWNSHIP - Mr. Wm. J. Clark spent the week- end in Hamilton, where he was cal- led, owing to the illness of his father Mr. Launcelot Clark, who had been residing with his son Clifford of Hamilton. Miss Gladys Allan of Goderich, spent a few days at the home of Mr and Mrs. Robt. McLinchey. The Young People of Blake and Goshen held a very enjoyable St. Pat rick's Social at the home of Mrs. J. Manson on Friday evening. Mr. Geo. Armstrong, Sr., of Eg- mondville is spending some time with his son, Mr. Lorne Armstrong and wife at the old home on Goshen line. The Goshen and Blake Y. P. S. held a very interesting St. Patrick Social at the home of Mrs. John Man son, on March 17th. Bill Clarke's side which were the loosers of the recent contest were in charge. The social opened by singing a hymn af- ter which Mr. Poulter led in prayer. Comma„:singing was led by Frank Fillingham -' Alberta ,f ant#tyY,.ht'fl 6.4ye a reaumg on tine life of St. Patrick. An interesting garde entit- led "Irish Stew" was led by Albert Finlay after which our orchestra played another selection. Bill Clark gave a contest on places in Ireland Lunch was then served and was en- joyed by all. Olive Erratt moved a vote of thanks to Bill Clark and to those who assisted him in giving the social. Y. 0. of Dashwood held their first regular aneeting in the school room on Monday night. ' The president Kenneth Wein, occupied the chair for the .meeting which op- ened with a song conducted by Miss A. E. Oestreicher with Miss VI Birk as pianist. Mrs. C. Haugh of Bruce - field, the County Organizer, in a splendid address (outlined the history and work of the club. Earl Witmer sang an Irish solo, af- ter which the tclub paper was read by Miss V. Birk. A mouth organ and guitar selection was given by Herbert Restemeyer. The minutes of the pre- vious meeting were read by Principal G. Keeler in the absence of the Secretary, Norman Walper, on ac- ount of illness.' The election of the board of directors resulted as fol- lows; E. 'Witmer, Miss G. Pepper, Miss E. Martinson, F. Wein, W. Wein and Beta Hayter. An interest- ing contest closed the meeting. At a recent meeting of the executive Principal G. Keeler and Mrs. A. E. Oestreicher were chosen as leaders for the Club to supervise the work for next aneeting to be held April 27 The S. & C. Club entertained their men friends at a jolly St. Patrick's party on Friday evening in the din- ning room of the Commercial Hotel. The earlier part of the evening was spent in appropriate games and con- tests, and later court whist was en- joyed. The honor prizes were won by, Miss V. Birk and Dr. R. H. Tay- lor and the consolation by Mrs. A. Tieman. Lunch was served at the close. Mrs. R. H. Taylor and Misss E. Martinson were in charge of ga- mes and contests while the executive consisted .of Mrs. G. Wildfong, Mrs. V. Schatz, and Mrs. M. Tieman,were in charge of the invitation and lunch arrangements. HENSALL Lieut Sam Rennie has been in Lon don for the Least week taking a spec- ial military course. C. I. McEwen spent the week -end in London with datives and friends. Consitt and Laird Mickle we- re in Ridgetown last week on busin- ess. Mrs. Bertha Bell of Toronto is visiting for a few days with her mo- ther. The Rennie Seed Co. • are starting to .get out their onion sets and have a staff of men employed. Both the Rennie Company and the Steele Briggs Seed Company have their large warehouses filled with onion sets. This will give employment to quite a number of men which will for a time help out the labor situ- ation in the village. Harold Scruton of Port Dover sp- ent the week -end at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Stewart o:' Toronto spent the week -end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. Foss. E. Bates of Stratford, spent a few days in town last week. .Harold Munn, of Perth, is visiting with friends and relatives James Howe of Cramarty spent Sunday at the home of Wm. L. Mc- Laren. The death occurred at the Scott Memorial Hospital on Saturday last of Margaret Gordon McMahon, be- loved wife of Alex. Munn. Mrs. Munn was taken to the Seaforth hospital about a week ago for treatment, but failed to rally. She was united in marriage ;,o Mr. Munn on Christmas Day, 1884, and they made their home on lot 16, con. 3, Hay Tp., until they moved into Hen:' sall 16 years ago. The deceased was a member of the United Church and when able a faithful attendant. Be- sides her bereaved husband she leav- es to mournher loss three sons, John Robert, on the home farm in Hay Aylmer; one daughter, Mrs. T. G. Wilson of Bay City, Mich. The fun- eral took place from her late home on Monday last, interment in the Hensall 'Union cemetery, with Rev. A. Sinclair officiating. Another of Hensall's aged and highly respected residents passed a- way on Mar, 12 in the person of John Berry, aged 86 years. He had been failing for a number of years but was able 'to get around, Was doral in Mornington Tp., a son of the 'ate Me, and Mrs, Adam Berry. The funeral was held to the Hensall Union cemetery, with Rev. A. Sinclair in charge. Geo. W. Wren passed away sud- denly at the home of his nephew, Geo. Chambers of Hibbert Tp.. on Monday, he has been in poor health for several years and last fail met with a severe accident by falling off a wagon. He spent some time in Seaforth Hospital. A few days pre- vious he purchased a home in Hen - sail where he and Mrs, Wren lived in the winter and in summer went out to the farm. He was born in Hibbert 71 years ago and has been a lifelong resident of this district. The funer= al took place to McTaggart's cemet- etery. COUNTY NEWS Tax collections in. Goderich Town- ship are not so good as last year. Col- lector Howard Sturdy reports. There is still $2000 unpaid, which is more than last year. at this time. L. V. Hogarth, Exeter, returned to his home last week from Westmin- ister Hospital, London, where he was undergoing treatment. No canvass for fluids was made on behalf of the Goderich Hockey Club but the Club has financed the year's experienses and winds up the season with a balance of $34.82 to their credit. Egniondville won the McMillan Cup for this season by defeating Win- throp 5-3 in 20 minutes of overtime hockey last Saturday night. A large crowd saw Egniondville come from behind after Winthrop had outplayed outskated and outscored them 3-0 in the first period. James E. Willis, of Seaforth, was successful last week in correctly gu- essing the number of goals scored in the National Hockey League during a certain week, and as a result of his perspicuity __,has received a reward from a cigarette manufacturer, who is conducting the contest. Frank Wood, Exeter, underwent an operation Monday Last at Dr. Fletch- er's Hospital for the removal of his tonsils. Wes. Jones, of Stephen Tp., un- derwent an operation in Victoria Hos pital, London, Wednesday last, for internal trouble. His many friends will hope for his speedy recovery. The many friends of Mrs. J. T. Miners will regret that she is leaving Exeter this month for Kingsville, where she will make her future home with her sister. Her brother, Russell Balkwill, who recently spent the win- ter in Exeter, left recently for his Borne near Kingsville.
