Your Chickens A few of our eitizens are again in ;;he habit of being careless with their -,:::kens and are letting then run at r,v1g,e, going a'.:oat looking what they ^a.y devour damae. Little do `hese hen -fruit owners realize how :each damage they can do to the 'cighbor.s' flower beds that have tak- :n in some cases years to mature, Ind a couple of these "scratchers" n a few minutes can make a terrible nes; and xuin the flo ver bed tor the t msner. Better Roads The exceptionally fine weather the hart seek -end and this week is a lig help to drying up and grading the ~oaths in the Township, The big new . vnship grader is at work every .ay with Mr. Milton. Deitz, the op- ,rator in charge, and under the sup- .rvision of Road. Superintendent Mr. Henry Steinbach. Already the pub- ic are noticing a ins"ked improvem- ent with the use of this new and pow- erful machine. The Zurich road to Hensall is practically dried up as .there are no bad spots where there "could be signs of frost, while some of the township roads have their bad places, and the Zurich road to St. (mph over the 'week -end has been -grrssrile, but we trust it will soon be dried off and become firmer so as traffic 'can be let •over this pies of Abad road which happens to be near the jog. A better system of drain- age at these bad places wiuld help vary much. LOCAL MARKETS (Corrected every Wednesday) Butter; dairy ............... _ .. 3. IS PART OF GERMANY Austria ceased to be a nation on S< `.urc!ay night last and became a part of Adolf Hitler's German Reich, extending from the North Sea almost to the Adriatic. The end of the pol- itical freedom of ancient Austria was achieved by two legal steps: First, i'resident Wilhelm Miklas resigned, He had opposed the Nazification of his country, and Dr. Arthur von Sey- ess-Inquart was made Chancellor. Reu'chsfuerer Adolf Hitler entered Vienna Monday in triumph to claim the land of his birth as a part of the German Reich, extending his military might from the Baltic to Brennor Pass, with 74,000,000 German-speak- ing subjects under his domain. Hitler proclaimed Austria and her 6,700„000 people as "a land of Ger- man Reich,' A BIG REVENUE PRODUCER Toronto ---The Ontario motorist do- esn't need to think his money is pay- ing the' province's highway bills—and then some. Premier Hepburn said in his budget sppeech the other day he had heard the complaint that only part'of .the highways department re- venue obtained from galoli-ne tax and niotor car' licenses was used for construction and maintenance of hi- ghways and ibridges. The premier cleared 'up the point quickly. From 1920' to March 31, 1938, the prov- ince had spent $505,911,000 on road'5''constraction, maintenance and interest on the highway debt. Its re- venue from highway taxes was $257- 678,000, Te estimated collections Pr= the gasoline tax this year would amount to $17,600,000. The tax thus would be second only to succession duties as the province's biggest rev- enueproducer. it";lraPAta *, March 2461 1I)3l' HARDWARE NEEDS We Always' Carry a Full Line of the Best of ; both Shelp and -..Heavy Staple Hardware; Stoves, Furnaces, and. all Heating Equipments Let Us ffer You!
