R. 1, Exeter The request of the Exeter Public Utilities Commission for a reduction in hydro rates has been approved by the Hydro Electric Power Commis- sion and goes into effect from De- cember lst. For the domestic con- sumers in Exeter the service charge has been abolished but the k.w.h. rate has been raised from 3 to 3.6c for the fust rate, the second rate of 1.5 remaining the same. Minimum bills remain the same at 75c per month. The service charge has beer G6c for two months for a two -wire. service and 41.32 for two months for three -wire service. The commer- cial rates have been reduced from 3c to 2.8c per k.w.h. for the first rate the second rate of .75 remaining the same. For power the first rate has been reduced from. 2.6 to 2.5: the second rate from 1.7 to 1.6 and the third rate .33 per k.w.h. These re- ductions tivilI mean a saving of 41250 a year to the hydro users and conse- quently that much less revenue to the municipality of Exeter. The new Rural rates which become effect- ive from November 1st give reduct- ions from 10 to 20 per cent. I LOCAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Ward Fritz were Sunday visitors at Crediton. Miss Pearl Wurtz is spending a few days with. Dr. and Mrs. K H. Cowen at Exeter. Mrs. W. L. Siebert is at present visiting with her daughter, Mrs. Maj- or at Toronto. Mrs. Alphonse Foster of Hensall, attended the funeral of her aunt,Mrs William Meidinger last Saturday. Mrs. C. Eilber has returned home after spending the holidays with re- latives and friends in and around Hensall. Mrs. Flossie Brown and Miss Clara Weber returned to London on Sun- day after holidaying with their par- ents here. Mr. Lloyd McBride of the Treen Line, spent Xmas. day 'with Mrs. Mary Manson and family, Goshen line, north. Misses Cathern and Mary Merner loft on Saturday for Elmira, where the former is a teacher and the latter taking up High School Work. Mr. Wm. Lamont made a business trip to Grand Bend on Monday. As Mr. Lamont at present uses mostly the horse and cutter on his insurance business trips, we think a trip to the Bend must seem a long way with this slower travelling vehicle. The rords along Zurich from St. Joseph to Hensall are in a very pas- sable condition at present as the big snow plow wallered through the past week and sent the loose snow scurrying into the ditches. This affords the auto to spin along nicely, but the concessions are blocked badly as yet, and while we heard of a truck coming up through the Bron- son Iine from Dashwood, the safest way to get to that place is by either the Blue Water route of the No. 4 Highway, which is plowed out nicely and cars are speeding along like in the summer season. There was a very small vote polled less than 40% of the voters being out, as only 661 votes were cast out of a possible 1644. A Bad Accident Word has been received here of a bad auto accident which happened :i short distance east of Baden on Monday of last week shortly before six o'clock and seven persons were injured in the crash. The most seri- ously injured was Mrs. Arthur Stein- man, of Baden, (Alice) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Koehler, of that glace and former residents of Zurich.. We understand that Mrs. Steinman has a double fracture of the jaw, one arm broken, along with other bruises and •her face is cut to the extent that she will keep a disfigured face. We greatly sympathize with Alice, as we knew" her in Zurich, and• with the Koehler family of this accident. The accident happened when it is ,aid Roy Snyder passed a car driven by H.
