ceived their first grading up and
are greatly improved. The Zurich
road to Hensall is at places just so.
so. still rnuite bumpy. What is ne
eded on this starving road is more
and then mese gravel, or better still
a nice coat of mecada, but who only
knows when this will ever happen.

WANT FLAT RATE
Toronto --A +request is ze_ng made
by the Provincial Secretary H. C
Nixon and Works Minister F. Oliver
in the Ont. Legislature for appoint-
ment of a select committee to con-
sider establishment of a flat rate fol
hydro power in Ontario. The repor
said that the action may hold possib
ility of a change in the hydro's bas
is system of supplying power at cosi
I,t says that hydro rates vary in var-
ious sections of the province unde:
the present system, with the highest
rate about $35 per h.p. and the lowest
about $20. It is said that if a fia
rate were established it probabl}
would encourage decentralization of
industry by obviating the advantage
of establishing industries in district'
where the power rates were low.

A BARN BURNS
Fire destroyed the bank barn of
Russell Webb, located in Stephen
Township, about three miles south-
west of Dashwood last Friday morn-
ing While Mr. Webb and his brother
Stewart, were at a bush only a snort
distance away, they noticed consider-
able smoke around the barn and by
the time they got to the barn it was
nearly all ablaze. Witih the assist-
ance of the neighbors they managed
to get all the stock out. Owing to a
nigh wind the fire had started in the
tush in several places. Grain and ot-
aer feed was destroyed. The fire is
oelieved to have been caused by
sparks flying from'underneath a ket-
tle where beans were being boiled
some distance away. The barn was
partly covered by insurance,
