BASEBALL MEETING
The schedule of the Huron -Perth
baseball league was drawn up at a
meeting held in Hensall on May 7th,,
The group • willcomprise seven teams
Lucan, Clinton, Goderich, St. Marya,
Mitchell, Hensall-Zurich ancz (red-
itar-Exeter. Hensall and Zurich are
combining their teams this year, as
are Crediton and Exeter with the
home games alternating. The opening
game will be played in Exeter on the
morning of 1M,ay 24th.
FORMER POSTMASTER DIES
One of Hensall's oldest residents
passed away on Saturday, May 4t1i,.
in the person of George J. Sutherland
in his 82nd year. The deceased had'
been in ,failing health for the pas
few anonths..B•orn in Embro, he m.ov
ed to .Hensall with his parents and
was postmaster there for over 60,
years. He met the train with the mail
for many years until failing health
prevented. He also conducted an in-
surance and conveyancing !business,
Surviving is a sister Miss Hattie
Sutherland. A private funeral was
held on May 7th conducted by Rev.
R. A. Brooks, assisted by ,Rev. A. Sin
clair, of Blyth. He was a member of
the United Church, an 1.0.0.F. and
:also a Mason.

The regular monthly meeting of
the ,Council of the Township of Hay
was held in the Town Hall, Zurich,
on Monday, April 13th, with all me-
mbers present. The minutes or the
April .2nd meeting were read and
adopted,
After disposing of the communi-
cations the 'following resolutions
were passed:
That by-law No. 6-1940 providing
for appointment of ,assessor and fix-
ing remuneration for 1940 be read
three times and finally passed.
That 1940 Assessment Roll the re-
