THAT SUPER -WINTER
SCIENCE BLAMES VOLCANOES
Writing in The American Weekly
with the April 7 issue of The Detroit
Sunday Times, Harold 0. Whitnall,
professor of geology ot Colgate t.)n'i-
versity, explains that volcanoes, like
careless janitors in the earth's base-
rnent, turned off the heat by sending
up dust to screen the warming solar
rays. Be sure to get The Detroit Sun-
day Times.
HOG HERDS DESTROYED
Mr. J. C. Shearer of the-agricul't-
ural office at Clinton reports that up
to March 16th 14 Huron county
farms were affected by the hog chol-
era scourge and in each of these the
whole hog herd had to be destroyed.
The federal veterinarians are still
carrying on investigations and have
still a lot to liok after. Close vigilance
is being maintained and it is believ-
ed the trouble is now well in hatttis.
An unfortunate feature of the srttn
ation is the inclination. of housewiv-
es to shun buying of pork for the
home table. Hog cholera, they may
be assured, is essentially a hog dis-
ease an.d is not communicable to oth-
er farm animals or to humans, and
of course no hog affected with the
disease could be sold for pork. Ho-
usewives are therefore assured that
they may' bur and serve pork on their
table=s: with p'er'fectsafety'.
