ELK IN HURON An elk -an aged buck -ha s been seen grazing near the southern end of Saratoga swamp, among a herd of deer, which are now beginning to "yard up" for the winter in that section. This information was given to 'Constables Jennings and Ruther- ford by farmers whom they contact- ed while investigating fa case of olle egal shooting in the swamp. The con- stables did not see the elk :but found the carcass of a 250 -lb. deer which had been killed by a soft -nosed bullet from a high-powered rifle. The bul- let had pierced the deer's lungs. The elk was seen by a number of farmers and is quite content with the deer who are now to be seen in herds of 50 and more. This is the first Inst- ante of an elk in Huron. Go, W. M. S.
