Mrs. James iGardiner of the That`nes
Road, another of Hon. James •Gardin-
er, celebrated here85th` birthday at
her home Sundayelast, members of
her .family, neighbouatis and friends
celebrated the event with her. She
was the recipient of many lovely

er's and congratulatory messages.

At the last , meeting of Tucker
smith municipal council, the resignat
ion of D. F. McGregor, who bas been
municipal. elerk •,for; the past 34 years
was reluctantly •accepted: For over a
year Mr. McGregor• has suffered tin-
der a severe handicap in the matter
of health, and, he felt the strain was
too much for thin to continue longer
although the council asked that his
services would be available in a con-
sulting capacity, He, was one of the
most widely known and best' posted
men on .municipal law in,these parts
and his ill health has been a matter
of deep regret. His successor in, •ot%
ce will be E. P. Chesney, the town=
ship treasurer.

Last week, Rev.' Menzies of • Londs-
.boro was in .charge of the service' at
the •Blake" ()Botch on Sieh_ day after
noon.
Mr. Manning .of Clinton spent a
few days with friends in the vicinity.
Mr. and Mrs. R. Oesch and Mr.
and Mrs. H. Finlay and family visit-
ed with Mr. and Mrs. E. Faber of
Kippen.
Mr. Victor Hey of Goderich, and
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Burdge and Mr.
and Mrs. Archie Mustard arso of
Goderich, visited their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Sam Hey.
The Hydro was turned on at Blake
beginning of the week.
Rev. Miss Hern was in charge of
the services in the Blake church on
Sunday afternoon.
Several took in the Men's Day
Choir program in the Emmanuel Ev-
angelical church, Zurich on Sunday
evening, when Rev. R. K. Love of
Clinton Radio School Padree was the
guest speaker.
Kenneth Faber is visiting his grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Oesch.

The regular meeting of'the Village
V,Council was held on the eve. of
Oct. 2nd at 8 p.m. in the Council

• Canvassers are busily engaged in
trying to make up the quota of the
Victory Loan and the 1st reports for
Zurich and Hay West is 26.31 per
cent of •the quota, which means still
aelong way to go. The village of
Blyth heads the list with 71,30 p.c.
of their quota up. • The public are
encouraged .to do their very best

In the eight distributing centres of
the Exeter district a total of 9,445
ration ibooks were given out during
the two days, Friday and Saturday,
October 120th and 21st. the distribut-
ing centres with,those in, charge and
the number of books given oat were
as follows: Exeter, R. N. Creech,
2,886; Hensall, Laird Mickle, 1,553;
Zurich, Milford Schilbe 1,771; Grand
Bend J. W. Holt 597; Dashwood, Ade

Hallowe'en Party
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Thiel was the very attractivescene
on Monday evening, when see was
hostess to a very enjoyable Halowe'en
party. The guests all attended with
attractive costumes 'for the occasion
and were received by Mrs. Victor
Dinnin, Mrs. W. B. Coxon and Miss
Leona Fisher. Gruesome Tale was
read and passed,.•which thrilled every
one present; airplane rides and other
items of interest were part of the
thrills. Prize winners for the best
dressed costume was Mrs. Leeland
Willert and for the most comic, Mrs.
Harold Klopp. A delicious luncheon
was served, and gratitude of thanks
to the hostess for the lovely evening
of fun and laughter were expressed
by the guests who returned to their
homes with fond memories of a well
spent evening.
HAD 88th BIRTHDAY
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bassow and
sister Emma of the Bronson line,
Hay Township, entertained a number
of guests on Sunday evening to a
dinner in honor of their mother Mrs.
William Bassow's 88th birthday an-
